IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | Brakes are working harder on the 08's with those heavy 18's vs light 17" bbs rims. I plan on running enkei rpf1's and hope to get 17x10 under there if not 17x9.5 will be fine. I will use the stockers for winter. |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | What did the 17's weigh? The 18" BBS are about 20 lbs, I don't think the 17's were all that much lighter, were they? TireRack shows a set of 17" Enkei in black that only weight 15.5lbs - I'm picking them up for my winter wheels. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | The brakes felt a little stonger to me on the 08 over my 04STI, but the 04 had a few years on the pads. I was going 145mph on my short cut off I5 down hill around a slight turn. I saw a FINES DOUBLE IN CONSTRUCTION ZONES sighn and was at 50mph in a heart beat. I must have glazed the brakes over because they dont feel the same now. Im sure my 04 could have done the same, but Down hill in a turn I was very impressed with how stable it was. My 04 had perrins alk in it and it would actually be squirly in that situation |

| Authorized Vendor | They are definitely not .3" larger in the front. I could take a picture of the stock rotors and DBA4000's from an 05 sti and show that they are exactly the same. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | my 18s weighed in at 18.2 lbs on my scale. Stockers were 27.8 Not many 17s are gonna be lighter than 18lbs unless theyre forged or very special casting process(such as Advan or enkei MAT in RPF-1) |

| STI Driver | I posted a shot of the 06 shop manual page (which has the same specs as the 05 one), and the 08 one in another thread a couple months ago. I forget the numbers, but the rotors, caliper, and pads are very slightly different sized. I didn't check if the caliper mount has moved at all (which might offset caliper size change). I'll dig up the link. Edit: specs according to the factory service manual here. The rotors are identical, the pads are slightly wider and thinner, the rear caliper brake cylinder diameter is larger, and the master cylinder diameter is smaller. Ah, looks like I didn't post the caliper dimensions. I'll see if I've got that somewhere. Last edited by altaic; 08-10-2008 at 12:54 AM. |

| Authorized Vendor | The pads may have a different spec in the manual, but in real life they are identical to the older STI pads. The front calipers and rotors are identical. The rear rotors are a bit different. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | The consensus seems to be that the pads themselves are identical but that the rotors and particularly the calipers are very slightly different, but not enough to make a difference (except when it comes to wheel weights as some people that have tried '07 BBS wheels have noted). Still, some official numbers from the service manual would be nice if only for reference. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
