Default Cost of factory ECU or substitute replacement

I might need to buy a new OEM computer for my 2008 USDM STI. Does anyone know what the Retail cost from Subaru is on this item? I launched my car real hard and it shaved the black wire on the rear oxygen sensor, which in turn shorted out the heater circuit in the ECU. I have already bought a new O2 sensor but i am still getting the check engine light with codes P0031 and P0037 showing up on my COBB AP. I just got back from P&L and George could not tune the car because of this. I need to find something out real soon, any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I was also wondering if the stock computer is too expensive could I get by by purchasing a Hydra stand alone system for this car when it is released, which if i am not mistaken completely replaces the factory ECU.

First off, did you reset the ECU?

I'm assuming yes since George would not tune the car, but if not yank the negative terminal off the battery and press the brake pedal a few times. Then reattach and see if the codes are still there.

A new ECU for the previous generation was close to $1000 from the dealer, and with the 05+ and the new 08s you will need to get it synced with the immobilizer unit in the car.

Hydra is expensive and if you need to have emissions checked in your state w/ an ODBII scanner it will not pass. Most people who are running Hydras have big horsepower cars or race cars. Not sure what your plans for the car are.

There's a fuse in the passenger footwell you need to replace. I've blown mine twice so far. Both times on fairly hard launches. Your ECU isn't toast. I'd love to know what's causing this though.

+1 for a response that could potentially save a few people $1000. Interesting how a hard launch could blow a fuse.

What was their suggestion that you do?

P@L suggested that i take the car back to the dealership pay to have them diagnos the problem with it possibly being a circuit bad in the stoock ECU.

So waktasz, your saying that the 2 codes i am getting on the COBB AP are being caused by this to? I have disconnected the battery reset the ECU, I still get these two codes even with the replaced rear O2 housing.

I am going to check this fuse now as we speak, If this is so would you think that it might be something with the newer tracion and VDC modes the car operates in?

Do you have a DP that relocated the O2 closer to something able to shave it back? Seems odd to have something like this happen to an otherwise mechanically stock car.

You have to replace the fuse, in the passenger side fuse box, then reset the ECU.

Just put a new 15 amp fuse in reset the ECU through the COBB AP and everything is perfect no codes at all. What really sucks is that I spent all that money to drive 450 miles to Chicago to stay the night, and get tuned the next morning and then I had to come back because they could not diagnos the problem with my car. Hummmm. I guess its because this car is so new that the performance shops have not encountered all the little bugs with the 2008's. But thanks again for the help and accurate advice Waktasz Its just too bad someone cannot give me a protune over the net here LOL. Now i can see what numbers and performance, this Dominator 3.0R, P@L CAI, Invidia catless DP, DeatchWerks 850cc injectors, Walbro pump, Aquamist HFS-5 meth kit, and COBB AP will produce. I am rescheduled for a tune at P@L for July 18th 2008.

Good work. Now go to autozone and buy a few fuses to keep on hand for the future.

There's also a few spares and a fuse puller in the underhood fuse box. You could use a 20amp fuse in a pinch.

btw, the Hydra for the '08 has changed to a piggyback setup because of the other things the ECU interacts with on the car besides the engine.

Sorry about being off topic, but does anyone know of anyone here in the Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania area that can road tune my car with the COBB AP? I cannot get into P@L to let George tune the car till July 18th, which is going to suck i would like to get somewhat of a decent tune till then.
