Have you tried disconnecting the battery to reset everything? What makes you think it is the immobilizer?

Yep ... done that....
Scanned the fault codes and all ok.

So maybe the immobiliser is stopping it firing up ?

Thanks

I'm not really sure how the immobilizer is supposed to work, but the fact that the starter is cranking makes me think it is something else. Now I am curious...*sigh* there goes my workday

Just found this if you are in a hurry and are sure it is the immobilizer:

I know you want to disable it but is it even connected? The immobilizer is suppose to keep the car from getting started so it won't get stolen. The way it works is it sends a signal to the key that has a computer chip, if there's a match, the car will start and stay on. If the car starts and the signals don't match, the car will start but it will not stay on. Also is your key the same one you got with the car or is it a new cut key? If it's new, the dealer will have to reset all the keys to the immobilizer. If you broke the immobilizer, well, you need a replacement and get it recoded. Hope this helps.

I agree....try your backup key.

It's possible that the immobilizer chip in your current key has been damaged. Trying your backup key will at least eliminate that possibility.

Have you done anything recently to the car (stereo install, mechanical upgrades, etc.)?

Ok. Might be silly but seeing as you may have tried everything Ill suggest something that I think you may have not tried.

Most of the new cars now a days that have a drive by wire throttle system have a certain feature that allows the engine to turn over but wont let it start, incases where you just need to circulate the oil and lube everything up before you need it to start. This feature is activated by holding down the throttle to the floor and turning the key.
So... What Im getting at is Maybe your floor mat is jammed on your throttle and holding it down to the floor.

If thats not it. Then try standing in the rain and screaming. "I COMMAND YOU TO START"

That should definately work.

Funny story, sorry it's a bit OT...My STi wouldn't start one day for god knows what reason and it was raining that day. It was sitting out in my driveway so I wasn't out anywhere. I got a little frustrated and yelled "WILL YOU START? LIKE TODAY??"...and she fired up.

i was told that an excessive amount of keys/metal tags/etc. on a key ring can possibly interfere with the transmission ogf the handshake signal between the chip in the key and the receiver.
