Default FYI on OEM Oil

Chris, mixed bag here again on your fresh 5000 mile machine. Fuels is still up there but combustion efficiency is great. Wear control better but silver, copper, and aluminum are worth watching closely. The OEM oils are not up to muster as they ended up as SAE 20 oils. I am not so worried about vis stability as wear control and fighting fuels effects on engine longer term.

Summary :

1.46% fuels dilute limiting drain interval and stressing the heck out of the oil.
RLI BIOSYN can be used to 3000-4000 miles but if raced limit to 3000 until we verify wear is in control. If you choose to sample without draining all of the RLI out.
Change air filter unless its brand new. OEM or fram paper un-oiled type recommended.
Sample the New RLI fluid at 3000-4000 and we shall go from there. Hopefully I get you low wear and lower fuels both!

At YOUR service, Terry

Looks like the OP sent in his oil for analysis and the person/company doing the analysis did not like the oil he was using (which appears to be the OEM oil) and stated that he feels it is of a lower quality and needs to be changed more regularily...

But I agree, post was/is a littel confusing...

Is he saying that he did his first oil change at 5k? On the 08 Sti it suggests changing the oil every 3750. Iirc, on my 06 it suggested changing oil every 5k under normal driving conditions but I don't know a single STi driver that drives his car normally. lol.

I'm not really sure, but my recommendation for Mr. Smartypants is to get a girlfriend, ASAP.

I think this was supposed to be a response to a thread I was reading yesterday about someone having their oil tested with high iron and lead levels. Somehow it seems it became its own thread.

EDIT - I was talking about this thread http://www.iwsti.com/forums/engine-p...n-content.html

But seeing as that guy's name is Dan and the OP is referring to a Chris I have no clue...so count me out

Not sure what the confusion is here.

Looks like the OP posted oil analysis results.

Said results show:
high metal wear
low oil viscosity at temp
need for shorter change intervals (how old was this oil?)
high fuel concentration in oil
need for a new air filter...

ding ding ding. I've never sent my oil in for analysis and I could still understand this thing completely. Interesting info, but a little background would be better. How long was the oil in, how was it run, etc.
