Thanks for the informative info currently running a Turbo XS BOV but bought the car like that in future will change to a stock one.

General question (I have no plans to get a BOV). Besides the sound, why would anybody get a BOV vs. a BPV (both protect against back pressure hitting the turbo)? It just seems to provide no benefit besides turbo longevity (which the BPV has) but screws with your AF ratio... I'm confused. Even with a large(r) turbo, wouldn't a BPV always be preferable?

if you're building more boost than the stock BPV can hold you will need to "upgrade" to something else... most often this would be a BOV.

Aren't there higher end BPV's which can handle the increased boost? (keep in mind I know almost nothing about cars) Or, is it that a BPV by design shouldn't be recirculating the increased (I'm guessing 20-25lb+ range?) boost back into the system and instead venting to atmosphere instead...

turboxs just release a new bov for sti , which come with recriculating . i think

Well I'm thinking about buying the new GFB (Go Fast Bits) Deceptor Pro BOV which has an electronic proportional in-car adjustment of blow-off valve volume. You should check out their website for more details about it here http://www.gfb.com.au/index.php?pare...n=deceptor_pro

i know someone who's running mid 20's for boost on the stock piece. but i would say around there is about where its stops working well.

Just a thought, so if the MAF sensor is after the throttle body, won't that be better?

Thank you very much for this thread. It just saved me the hassle of getting a BOV.

Now that I think of this thread, it does make sense. I have a friend with an 06 STi that did a BOV replacement and the car was running like ass.

Another ignorant question here, I have never cared for the sound of a BOV to begin with, but I am wondering where it all came from. I assume someone made a cheaper BOV that can handle higher boost pressures before opening, but it would seem to me to be the same thing as a BPV that can handle higher boost pressures, right? It's just a BPV without the feedback tube. If someone got a BOV on our engine, what would you do with the hose/hole for the recirculated air anyway?

greddy type s and type rs valves are recirculating... it takes longer than a non recirc to install.. (requires removal of intercooler) and sounds and performs exactly the same as the factory one.. so if your in it for performance... forget it.. and if your in it for the sound.. get a BOV
