TiC, just curious, how are the rest of your handling mods progressing

They're coming. We still haven't received our tester AST's yet, but should hopefully have them soon. We have figured out how to do some bushings for a couple key areas of the car that should really help tighten it up. We got some whiteline rear sways in the other day that look good. And we should have some springs to test out within 6 weeks or so.

OK, waiting patiently. What spring rates are you considering?

To start with the ASTs we're thinking 7k front 8k rear. This should be pretty darn close to the frequencies set up by our 7/5 combo AST setup for the older cars.

Now, since I know someone who hasn't looked under the car is going to chime in on those rates, and start hopping up and down about the 8K rear rate, and why it's so much higher than the old setup I'll say this - motion ration and rear end are entirely different than the old setup.

with this initial setup what are you expecting in terms of natural frequencies f/r

C'mon...where are the pics? Also, driving impressions after the alignment changes?

As for alignment so far - Tony is going to pick up the car now. Front with bolts put negative camber at -1.5.

With the whiteline rear camber bushings we wanted closer to 0, but the best that could be done was -1.0 in the rear.

Interesting finding - for a 1/2" of compression the rear toes-in .1*. This would help explain why the back end of the car feels so composed in turns, and stable.

It might be a bushing/setting thing or it might just be a result of the geometry (most likely that) so it's going to be difficult to figure out how to reduce that.

Anyway, here's the bushings (BTW, Tony took these pics) -

How they made it work is a bit interesting. There's no spot on the subframe or in the arm for an eccentric. So what they did was they made one in the bushing by offsetting the bore of the crushtube.

In order to adjust it you have a bolt that threads in (the long one), and tightens down.

By turning the bolt you rotate the crush tube. Since the bore is off center it acts like a cam.

To tighten down the bushing to lock the setting you tighten the short bolt, and the nut you see on the long bolt.

As for the install that was interesting.

You have two bushings.

The first bushing is the small one. It's a crush tube, bushing, and outer metal sleeve. This one presses out very nicely and as it should.

The second bushing is actually a split bushing. Each portion consists of a crushtube, bushing, and outter shell. There is small lip on the bushing that we tried to set a punch on to drive the bushing out, but it just bent. We also tried putting a small punch down the middle to the seam to punch it out. That was no go as well.

From looking at it there are two things we found you could do.

1) Tap the crush tube, insert a bolt and use a puller.
2) Fire. Use a torch to heat the rubber until it start to break down. A small screwdriver will then let you rip out the crush tube, and you can then drive out the outer sleeve.

Either way is not exactly graceful and will destroy the stock bushing. In the WL instructions they simply state "remove bushings." Well, we did that, but there's got to be a better way.

we have provided some feedback to WL on this, and hopefully they can include a technique that is more friendly in the instructions.

The car feels much more nimble. Like it lost weight. It changes direction much faster, and takes a set more nicely.

BTW TIC, I have no luck with whiteline tie rod ends and ball joints. They seem to only last a couple of track days before they develop excessive slop. Have you seen this too and do you have a better solution? Thanks.

We personally have not, but we have heard of this from a couple other guys. Have you talked to WL about it?
