Default Octane Boosters-ACN 91-COBB???

Has anyone in CA,AZ or NV that is stuck with the dog urine 91 octane gas used octane boosters and run a Cobb 93 octane map????

Or would that turn the engines in our little Japanese cream puffs into smoldering piles of sh--??????

Just wondering...I'm very messed up at the moment on Diet Pepsi&pringles

I would not do it. most of these will claim something like 10 octane points and we think this means 91 -> 101 great right but what they really mean is one point = 0.1 so
91 + 6 bucks = 92 octane.

cheers

I used to put 93 at 3/4 of a tank then race fuel the rest, but I hadn't done it on my sti yet.

I've been toying with the idea, and getting quotes for a 55-gallon drum of VP110 unleaded race-fuel. If I mixed just 2 gallons with the whole tank, I would get a nice 93+ octane mix. A 55-gallon drum would probably last me about 6 months, at the cost of about $450.

But, in regards to your question... I don't think you could get away with the 93 map... but you could add the octane booster, and use the regular 91 NON-CA/AZ/NV map, which is a little better.

Will the Cobb tunes notice a better Octane and adjust UP, so to speak ?

I know my 91 GIAC tunes on my Audis would know if I put 101 in the tank.
It would adapt to the better octane, while it was there.

Not as much as if it was a Race Gas tune, but it would make an extra 10-15 hp, dyno proven....

Will the Cobb adapt a bit if better fuel is used ?

I actually have 4 gallons of VP MS109 mixed in my tank running with stage 2 93 oct map and my car runs like a f*ckin' top. This is the second tank I've ran this way. The 91acn OTS map absolutely blows so I started playing with the octane. Just remember that when your mixing octanes you need to take the R*M/2 octane rating on the race fuel (this is how they rate pump gas) since thats the octane that the cobb maps are based on. MS109 has a 109 research octane rating and a 101 motor octane rating which means it has a 105 R*M/2 octane rating. Just remember to used unleaded race gas.

On a side note. I run catless and was overboosting and getting cels with the 91acn map v1.00 but with the 93 v1.00 map and race fuel I haven't been overboosting. The 08 really hates the CA pump gas.

Another way to raise your octane is to use 2 gallons of Toluene. That would put a full tank at around 93.5 octane. I've never tried this, so do it at your own risk.

I never used 2 gallons... but in my V7 WRX, I used to use a quart of Toluene for every tank... car ran great!

Not yet... my AP will be here tomorrow. But I spoke with Perrin and mentioned that, and he said that would probably work fine.

With the right amount mixed in i dont see how it could hurt anything? Id run the 93 octane map with it though. Id probably opt for a protune myself. Unless the car is running like absolute hell octane boost seems like a waste of money for daily driving.

Was that with the stock tune or an AP?
