Default «sir your car is louder then it should, i must give you a ticket for that!

well i have been pulled over for the first time in 15 years, i always drove cars with modded exhausts, but here in the repressive province of quebec nowadays it`s illegal to mod an exhaust to make it louder than stock. there is no limit, just the fact that its louder than stock and you are illegal. At least we can argue a bit on what we each hear!

i`m on the verge of trading my 06 for an 08 (not for that reason though). Since i can always argue that the catback will be stock, i`m still willing to take a chance on catted downpipe and headers, but not the obvious catback swap.

does anyone know what is the max power an sti can make on stock cat-back? be it with header, dp, 20g ,FMIC or any other combo.

thanks for helping

You could make alot of power with the stock catback, you'll always be leaving some hp on the table, but you could do a 20g with the supporting mods and mod the exhaust, catless dp stock catback and still make power in the high 300's no problem.

^^^say something like "I didn't mod it to make it louder, but just to increase performance. I suppose it being louder is just a byproduct of my performance gains."

Thank you mountie sir.

I knew a guy with a VW VR6 motor and he had a 3" exhaust, but hated it loud so he put like 2 stages of mufflers. I don't know how much performance degradation that caused, but his exhaust was quiet as hell.

The new Perrin Stealth Street exhaust is supposed to be super quiet without sacrificing performance. Its not out for the 08 STi yet though...its in R & D according to Perrin. I wish I could wait for that one.

I used to have a 02 honda civic with a greddy catback exhaust, and a state tropper jump on the pa saying that my car is too loud at idle, then he said it's illegal to mod the exhaust on those cars. But in South Carolina we don't have car inspections at all ,he had some girl in street clothes in the front seat so he was just showing off. Just look up SC state troppers they are not on the good side of the news.

This is why they invented electric exhaust cut outs.

The sound and performance of a stock system but flip a switch and you get the boxer rumble and 15whp.

Then why dont people do this...? Cause that sounds pretty handy dandy to me!

Id be down to have one of those, but then would you need to flip to another map once you open and close it?

Cutouts can cause ECU issues, Like learning being inaccurate changing conditions causing limp mode things like that. I would bet your car would end up running fairly rough. Maybe not bad, but certainly not what it coul be.

Significantly changing the mechanical efficiency is going to be hard for the car to stay on top of. Especially doing it while the car is running in closed loop.

If were to do a cut out it would have a 2 foot tailpipe with a side dump infront of rear tire. I dont see how it would be much different then straight pipe. I would have a different map for open to maximize power.

Video of AMR's 08

Cut out open. 274 awhp
Cut out closed (stock exhaust) 259awhp
