Default After Market Intake

I am looking to install/purchase a short ram air intake (this will be my first mod). I remember reading a thread that said that changeing the factory air box and/or factory filter would cause the engine to run lean and could lead to burnt pistons and other engine damage and poor performance. Could someone explain if this is a mod that I should consider?

Without engine management, intakes are not good mods for these cars. Search around for engine management as that should be your first mod.

your car will not run correctly if you do not also install a blow off valve

All I can say is that my only engine mod is an SPT short ram and it does not run lean but it doesn't really make a noticeable difference either. It has a different sound but thats about it. I thought since it was installed by the dealer that it would be a safe mod, and I have not regretted doing it. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure its rich with an intake IIRC. But if you are guna get one get a cold air intake. The short ram is a hot air intake. It takes all the super hot air from the engine bay, instead of the cold air from the fender well.

As crazy as this sounds I would get an intake that makes the least difference to the power. Intakes on STi's sound awesome but if the make a difference in power, it's probably because they are leaning out the mixture which is why you should have your car tuned for an intake.

Why would I need a blow off valve?
