I've never been to the track with any organization (NASA, SCCA, PCA, BMWCCA) that would allow the use of a harness bar. Without at least a 4 point roll bar harnesses are not are not safe. For autocross you can use the rear child seat anchors with heavy duty carribeaners to secure it. This way you never have to give up your back seat. If you're like me, it's only tires and tools that go back there, but still, better safe and save your money for tires and seat time.

This is NOT safe. the child seat anchors are NOT designed to support the forces that an adult will put on them. Every manufacturer specifically warns against this.

The Schroth Rallye 3 anchored to the C-pillar seat belt anchor point is what you'd want in that usage. It's designed for those forces, takes the strain off of the seat, and has a conveninent buckle to unhook when no in use.

If future upgradeability is what you care about you'd be better to go with a Rallye 3 for now, then buy the Rallye 4 tail piece later. The seat will not support the forces of a four-point mounted lower than the shoulder holes. Testing has proved this. Call Schroth up and they'll tell you that without a harness bar the only belt that you can use is the Rallye 3.

Also, without a harness bar or roll cage you will have to mount the tail pieces so far from the seat that you'll be in the zone where they're so long that they will stretch enough to let you slip out in a bad or long incident. For that fact alone most organizations will not let you out on track with such a setup.

Q: Looks like a harness (Rallye 4, etc) and harness bar could be installed/uninstalled in ~ 1 hr? Is that about right or could it be quicker? And are you cutting interior parts around the B pillar or just removing plastic covers to expose the bolts?
