No, but he's talking about autocrossing. When the start is on a hill I use the ebrake to hold the car, then put it down after I get going.

Ok. I need to clarify...this only happened once or twice before I figured out what was going on...the whole point was that there was absolutely no reason for hill-climb assist to be activating at this stupid almost negligible slope. I like the feature for say large inclines so I would just like to know how to adjust it.

How many people actually ever had a problem with engaging the clutch on a hill..? I really don't understand such an intervention.

The way it is used is counter-intuitive and goes directly against how you should deal with an incline to begin with.

If you're on a steep hill, you disengage the clutch until it grabs, then let off the brake and give it gas while you fully engage in the clutch. Or if the engine has enough torque, you simple feather in the clutch and the car is idling up the hill..etc.

Why would you need 1 more seconds of brake if your using the clutch to hold you car in position before adding more throttle or feathering in the clutch.

This has never been a problem (ever) for me when on hills... I learned how to deal with this when I was 15. I hate nanny-assist BS like this. I'm going to hold of from purchasing an STI until someone has a work-around. Very unprofessional. If anything, it should ONLY engage if the slope is greater than 15 deg.

you dont roll back at all on large inclines? I have a hard time believing that. Hill assist produces zero roll back and is quite helpful IF you are expecting it, and an anoyance when you aren't. And who doesnt buy a car based on a minute feature like that?

Who? me?

I've been driving stick shifts since 1984.. Hill Assist is something new.. and not needed. How did those old folks in the 60 & 70 do it..? LOL

Been driving stick since i was 12 on my dads 4 speed 79 mustang. Always owned stickshift and drove stickshift the majority of the time. I can see myself hating this feature big time. Hopefully someone at SOA will figure out this is a big issue and do something about it.

if you come off the brake quickly before you clutch in this beats it. If you can drive stick well its no problem

To be honest i was worring about this feature.

It has only kicked on once for me and that was in my drive way and I had to make it do it by pressing the brake pedel pretty hard with the clutch in.

On the street I rarley hold the clutch in with the brake down. If im stopped I do not hold the clutch pedel down. I just hold the brakes enough to stop the car from moving.

I have not had the HSA kick in once in the 2 weeks ive had the car ex that one time in my drive way I made it kick in.

Maybe its the way I drive thats its not engaging.

It will engage if the clutch is in and you apply lots of pressure to the brake pedel and then let out the clutch. Ebrake will disable it if you pull it up one notch.

Just to add my rant:

I got my 08 STi about a week ago. I didn't know about this hill assist (dealer never mentioned it) and after stalling several times in my driveway I read the manual because I could swear the brakes were on. Of course my fiance thought I was just a newb.

I practiced a bunch and eventually figured out to wait a bit before letting off the clutch. Now this adaptation works well when I *know* the HA is going to be on. Using the hand brake is a good work around for this situation, as its the traditional way to have a zero roll-back start on a hill.

What continues to baffle me is when it kicks in on insubstantial inclines. Like the ones at the start of every driveway in the US. You know, the ones that ramp up the height of the curb over the width of the sidewalk. I had to stop on one of these to let some pedestrians walk by. Then hill assist kicks in, and I stall it. Of course happened two more times because my body & mind isn't thinking "Oh yeah, this is a HILL. I need to use my hand brake!"

From the safety side, I am 100% sure I'm going to mash my car into my retaining wall this coming winter. I have a very steep and narrow driveway. It ices over every single winter (live in Minnesota). Some times its so treacherous that The front end will start sliding sideways with the brakes engaged and I need to roll the car back to regain control. With hill assist, I'm sure its going to be a mess. At least I'll know to use the hand brake for that situation.

Option to disable seems to be the smart response from SOA. Hope they do something soon.

It happened to me on a test drive. Totally insignificant slope while waiting for the green arrrow. Damn thing stalled and made me look stupid.

I was not too thrilled about the interior quality, the stereo etc etc but could live with those. But this was the deal breaker.

I was gonna try and run some wires to that collar that you pull up for reverse, but that was a no go. So anyway, I ran some wires to the clutch pedal, and thick arse soldered them to the pedal and where the rubber bump stop is when the clutch is fully depressed. Only when the clutch is fully depressed, it will complete the circuit, kick off the hill-assist, and even if you back off of it, there is no memory brake pressure. so you'll roll back if so desired. OK, now, what could potentially go wrong?
Panic situation where you depress the clutch fully, you lose traction control?

I've been running it like this for a while now. I NEVER Bottom out on my shifts, so I'm not worried about anything. All I have to do is bottom out the clutch when on the hill, and it turns off immediately. Anymore ?'s just ask. Maybe I should take some pics.

Don't you give me if you didn't read all pages(back at ya)

Yes, this is a redneck fix, but it works for me.

Maybe that is why noone really ever responded. My fix does not contain enough cooth.
