Not IMO. I had my STG 2 catted '05 WRX protuned. Didn't see much increase in the hp/tq dept, but power delivery was much improved vs. the OTS map.

Sorry for the hijack OP.

range / performance its overboost problem . Easy to fix just buy a Greddy Profec B spec 2 Boost Controller ( no restriction pill ) thats what my protune did and i ran 8 times in 1/4 miles with no problem at all. No more check engine.
The stock ecu can control boost tons better for a stock turbo.

Well, with my '08, Dan Harman of Harman Motive personally was going to pro-tune my car and came back and said he can't do much more than what the OTS map is doing for me. I have a Cobb catted DP and, of course, Stage 2 map (91 oct. Az/Ca/Nv). He said the OTS was so right on, he didn't see the point of doing a pro-tune. BUT I recently threw a code (boost) gunning it uphill on the 405 in 6th at around 3k rpm. Not sure if the pro-tune would have avoided the CEL but as long as I'm not lazy, and actually shift when I'm supposed to, the answer to your question is YES, it is pointless to get a protune with a Cobb catted DP, Stage 2 map, and otherwise stock exhaust. YMMV with other brands of catted DP but I don't think by much, if any.

It's not a matter of getting a CEL while driving fast, although I don't track so going fast is usually not a good idea anyway. At any rate, looks like Cobb to the rescue with respect to the issue, v1.01 maps just released per this thread...

A custom tune is the best thing you can get for your car.It helps drive ability and gives a little more power that comes on smoother and better boost control. You are lucky to have an 08 so it may not be as noticeable for you but I have an 07 and it was night and day.
