Default Sea Level Tune at Elevation

Hey guys, can someone tell me what the problem with running one of the cobb or perrin maps at 5k feet would be? Seems like the tune would be safer since the air is thinner and thus less likely to run lean. What am I missing?

Thanks.

I am curious too!

Hear say says you have it pro tuned cause most of the preset maps just don't apply at altitude but I have also heard that it depends on the CPU of the car because the car does make on the fly adjustments even when flashed but that is all hear say.

Bump for knowledge.

I'm running the COBB 91 octane ACN map at 4100ft. It still made quite a difference in performance. And I agree, that it would be more safe at altitude, don't have to worry about running to lean.

A pro tune would have to be done at the altitude your at, to many variables to factor in...Bump me if I'm wrong here anybody?

Based on your first statement, why would I need a protune at only 900ft higher? (Actually the valley floor of Reno is only 4600 but I live in the hills)

The pro tune statement was to THEKIFFER which was the second reply in your thread.

I'm in Bishop, and as I said, the OTS map really boosted power at 4100ft.

Any tuners in Reno?? If so check it out...I don't see Cobb or anyone else making Maps for every 1000 ft. elevation, cause that's what they would have to do for all the STI ownwers at altitude.

And again,I don't know how accurate the maps would be unless they were made at the different elevations ??? Check me if I'm Wrong ???

I agree the tune would need to be at the altitude the person who owns the car lives at which is why I said a protune. Maybe I am getting my terms mixed up but I thought a pro tune was a local tuner who could tune your car specifically for your needs where you live.

I doubt that 900 ft is going to affect it that much in your area but here in Colorado 900ft can have some pretty major atmposheric changes.
