Anyone install the Homelink/Auto dimming mirror on the 08?

Like the title says, has anyone installed one yet?

I've been itching to get my garage door opener out of the cup holder and onto my mirror, but dont know exactly what is involved.

I'm aware that some of the older models had a pre-wired harness already under the headliner, but I haven't dug around yet for that. Also, if you have done it, what did you do with the glued on tab for the original mirror?

Just finished installing one. Fairly simple. You need to buy the adaptor from Subaru, for the new mirror, which lets you leave the original piece glued to the windshield. About $12 from subarugenuineparts.com. I bought the mirror off Ebay and it didn't come with the short wiring harness needed to plug into the cars wiring harness above the reading lamps. There's a pigtail pre wired up there. I ordered it from my local Subaru dealer for about $8. If you have to do that, order the wiring harness cover trim piece at the same time because it's different than the original unless you don't care about the exposed wire. I have an 06 STi so I can't speak for earlier years so I would check to see if the pigtail is there. Or, if you already have an auto dimming mirror it's definately there. It's a different wiring harness though. Hope this helps.

I had the Homelink on my 06 and loved it, so when I bought my 08 with just compass/dim I had to swap it out. I bought the homelink mirror from SubaruGenuineParts.com and it came with all necessary hardware and instructions on how to swap it over. It's really simple, plug and play.

You know, I HATE having to look at the garage door remote so I hid it! I just clipped mine right below the steering wheel where the lower dash ends...so it's being held up right between my knees. You don't get the fancy auto dimming mirror but I saved some $$ and don't have to look at my remote.

Yeah as the rest said. I transfered mine from my 07. Just take off the light and there is a harness up there you just clip it in and done with wiring. You just need to make sure you buy the full assembly because you need the piece that hides the wire and the piece that mounts the mirror.

If you are handy, you can wire a remote switch and put the garage door opener in your dash somewhere. The switch you can mount on your dash somewhere.
