I think 80ft lbs is a good point of refference. I usually go to 85. Some people will say a little less, some might say a little more. But I think 80 is a good sweet spot. Haven't had one lug lossen at all on me.

I used 72-75 lb-ft on my '05 BBS wheels, so I would assume it is probably pretty close to the same for the '08. No problems at all.

For pre-08...
aluminum lug nuts
Quote:
The answer in the STi Service Manual. For aluminum wheels it says "see steel wheels".

Steel wheels says: 65.7 ft-lbs of torque.
...but for 2008? Not sure... anyone have a 2008 STi service manual?

I must have skipped that part. When I found out my car arrived but couldn't get it until the Monday after, I asked for the manual and read it end to end. Must have missed that part. What page is it on?

the owners manual on page 9-8 gives a torque of 58 to 72 lb-ft but that is for the steel spare tire. If the torque is in the manual for the alum. wheels what page is it?

9-6 on the bottom right notes that options exist for both temporary and full-sized spares. The instructions however don't change, and since 9-8 doesn't specifically refer to the steelie, I assumed it applied to any wheel being put on the car.

I also confirmed 75ft-lbs with the guys at Discount Tire that mounted my wheels.

How do they expect you to torque down a wheel on the side of a road, with their crappy lug lever. How would that be possible.. haha

Default 73.8 ft-lbs from the service manual.

From the service manual re: Aluminum Wheels:

B: INSTALLATION
1) Remove dirt from the mating surface of the
wheel and brake rotor.
2) Attach the wheel to the hub by aligning the wheel
bolt holes with the hub bolts.
3) Temporarily attach the wheel nuts to the hub
bolts. (Use SUBARU genuine wheel nuts for aluminum
wheels.)
4) Tighten the nuts by hand, making sure the wheel
hub hole is aligned correctly to the guide portion of
hub.
5) Tighten the wheel nuts in a diagonal selection to
the specified torque. Use a wheel nut wrench.
Wheel nut tightening torque:
100 N·m (10.2 kgf-m, 73.8 ft-lb)

CAUTION:
• Tighten the wheel nuts in two or three steps
by gradually increasing the torque on opposing
nuts, until they reach the specified torque.
• Do not push the wrench by foot. Always use
both hands when tightening the nuts.
• Make sure the bolt, nut and the nut seating
surface of the wheel are free from oil.
6) If a wheel is removed for replacement or for repair
of a puncture, retighten the wheel nuts to the
specified torque after driving 1,000 km (600 miles).
