Default Question about installing AP

Hey guys, I'm sure this is a newbie question but I'm a newbie .. I'm new into tuning and I just got my accessport yesterday so me and my friend installed it, I'm just worried if I did it right.. We went under the passenger side carpet rolled it up and connected the two green connectors to put it into test mode( which I have been reading today that I might not be supposed to do? not sure) Then we clicked on install hit ok on the make year of my car then picked my map and installed it. It didn't let me choose between realtime and reflash. I read we are supposed to reflash it not realtime it, I'm hoping what we did is fine? I've had no problems with the car since but just want to make sure it's all good.. If anyone can let me know it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

For the original install you don't get the option of realtime and reflash. Sounds like you did it right

You can always "Show Current Map"

i did the same thing.. funny how people said there are no green connectors, but the connectors the cobb video showed were green as well as the connectors that were under the carpet.

oh OK great!! Now let me ask, I did that show current map then it said realtime or reflash. Am I supposed to reflash it to get it to get reflashed or is it already reflashed from the steps I did? (And what happens if I pick the reflashed option? Then it will show me the current map? And if i reflash it would i have to have the 2 green connectors plugged in?)And another question, how much does it usualy cost to get a protune and how can I find a good place in NYC for that?

Interesting... I didn't use the green connectors and I believe it installed correctly.

You do not use the green connectors to flash an 08 thats right from cobbs tech. I had no Problems reflashing and i did not touch the green connectors.

is there any difference in installation on different years? I have an 07 STi and am interested in getting the accessport v2 when i come back to the states from Australia. PS for anyone that is interested, there are a ton of Subies here in Aussy, just a heads up for anyone who visits here it is awesome seeing them all over, especially right hand drive!

Show map will not reflash the ECU, it only displays the current map. The only way to reflash the ECU is through the "change map" (or is it program?) menu.

Show map menu lets you see either (1)The realtime map (2) the reflash map.

The realtime map is temporary, it will be erased if the ECU is reset (eg. battery unplugged).

The reflash map is permanent and will survive an ECU reset.

These two maps could be the same or different. When you flash the ECU you have an option of selecting which map you wish to change. If you change the realtime map it's much quicker than flashing the reflash map.

The realtime map is also somewhat based on the underlying reflash map as well, how I'm not sure, but I believe it uses it as somewhat of a base map and builds on it. So for maximum performance, you should try to match the two maps if possible.

As for my own car, I set the reflash map to anti-theft, and change the realtime map from day to day. That way, if I park the car I can set the realtime map to anti-theft and know it will endure even if someone tries to reset the ECU.

Hope that helps.

Just to confirm, you don't need to plug the green test connectors together to flash an '08.

Info Please...so,if I REFLASHED my ECU to 91 octane,i should REALTIME the 91 octane map also...right! Then when I drive to,and from work (95 miles ) I should REALTIME the economy map for the comute, then REALTIME back to the 91 octane map when I'm looking to beat-up Mustangs around town after work!

Would this be a good example of how to use the REALTIME mapping??

Thanks

I thought that you are suppose to reflash when you want to change maps, and realtime is permanent to your computer so when the battery is disconnected the realtime is always there then you reflash to whatever map you want.
