Help: Disable A/C with Defrost on

I live in a very dry, but cold climate. during the winter i prefer to have the defrost mode on, due to a frozen windshield... but i dont want A/C on, becouse it decreases the fuel mileage.

Does anyone know how to disable A/C from automatically turning on when the defrost mode is on?

I can see that places with a higher humidity would need the A/C to dry out the air, and increase the effectiveness of the defrost mode on the heater, but its useless to my climate.

afaik there is no way to disable it. is it really that hard to just push the a/c off button when you switch the defrosters on?

have you read your users manual? (2008 STI)

the A/C kicks in without me pushing the A/C button, and the A/C light will not turn on when Defrost is selected. its all automatic. [in other terms: if you put the heater on Defrost, A/C will turn on automatically without light indication]

buddy of mine disabled his automatic a/c w/ defrost on a civic using a certain key on off, and button sequence. then another buddy disabled his by un-plugging a wire from the climate control system.

i understand what you are saying. i was not aware that it was different for 08s. on 04-07s, you can disable the A/C when in defrost mode by pushing the A/C button.

Like dude said, stop being so condescending. I just read your post and didn't even think that you could have an '08. It takes us awhile to get used to new car models

the old models used to cut 1 of the 2 wires to the back of the compressor/ac switch

i did not mean to sound condescending, but guys... this is a 08+ specific forum. When you log into this area, its specific to the 08's or higher.

my apologies, I didnt pay attention, busy at work and didnt even look. Anyways, I thought it would be similar to the earlier models if it has the auto climate controls.
