IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | I do not care about how LOUD my car is. Remember my first real mod was a set of Stoptechs. I talked to one speed shop, and they where saying catless DP and pro-tune is the only way to go. Is this correct? Does a pro-tune get you that much more over the Cobb stage2. I would like this car set-up for Road-curse track events. I could care less about 1/4 mile keep that in mind. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 Trader Rating: (21) | a protune is 100% worth it. catted or catless is your choice. if you dont care about loudness or flames, and have a little extra money, get a catted dp. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Catless is going to give you less restriction, which is good. A Pro-tune is always better than an OTS tune because it is tailored to your car. Cobb's maps are great starting points and tune the car for more power while keeping a healthy margin for safety. A Pro-tune will get you the most power you can get without blowing your car up. The WHP difference between an OTS tune and a Pro-tune can be pretty substantial. Also, if you have the right tuning software, your tuner can tailor your tune for more roadcourse racing power than 1/4 mile power by altering how much boost and where it will kick in in the powerband. Catless and Pro-tune all the way. |

Get a couple parts on your car and then get it pro-tuned. As a Pro-Tune on a Stg2 will only yield minimal HP increase over the OTS map. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | Sometimes you have to worry about noise, even at racetracks because some have sound level restrictions. Personally, I would not take a stage 2 OTS map onto a road course, especially after seeing how poorly my '05 took to it. Protuning is the only way to go and you can specifically request a road course-safe tune. Tweaking for the 1/4 mile is different because the car is only running hard for about 12-13 seconds. On the road course you are running 20 minute sessions at full tilt. At stage 2 levels, my tuner said a catless exhaust might only buy you another 5whp (I only had one hi-flow cat.) To me that isn't worth it, especially when it comes time for emissions testing (that might not affect you.) |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (2) | Mine may be a unique situation (Cali 91 Oct.) BUT when I plopped in my Cobb catted DP into my '08 with Stage 2 OTS map for Cali, my tuner said it is so dialed in that he would be able to extract MAYBE another 5 horses. The tuner, btw, was Dan Harman, so not some newcomer learning his way around. Again, my situation may be unique because I understand that there are vehicle to vehicle differences and the big difference being the fuel you and I use but just be aware that at least one of the OTS maps made a pro-tune redundant. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (2) | Did you get a Pro-tune on your '08? It would be interesting to compare/contrast your experience with mine since it seems to be one of the OP's concerns. |
