IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (4) | So I am taking delivery of my STI tomorrow and looking into the HKS Camp 2 so i don't have to mount any meters. after looking at the OEM Nav I've decided to get the car with out it, as i can probably get a nicer after market unit for cheaper with more options. Question is has anyone installed a HKS Camp 2 in a new STI yet? Wondering what the OBD port will actually display or what information will it give. This ad is not endorsed by this member. | Amateur STI Driver | my accessport can display any one of the following parameters: pressure (i assume manifold), volts, intake temp, engine temp, speed, tacho, air/fuel ratio, and a couple of others i dont understand--injection timing, and another thing about delay. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (4) | The Accessport is nice too but I don't really want to mount anything in the car as far as display items unless the accessport can feed a video input into Nav set up for a clean looking install. |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Currently, with the research I have done thus far, I think the HKS CAMP 2 is very expensive for what it does. I have found better alternatives that cost a lot less and do a lot more. Why? The HKS CAMP 2 still requires the use of the OBD II connector and also requires an external 12V DC power connector in (Hardwired or through the Cig adapter). Since this the case, might as well go with something that will give me better use of the OBD II connector (and do it for less money). I know that mounting the Access Port is ugly, but you will still need to mount the HKS CAMP 2, which is also unsightly. However, most people will mount the HKS unit under the dash and use the remote. I am coming to the conclusion that using a computer (such as a small OQO or Mac Mini) is a better solution. The options out there for such configurations are limitless. Since you still have to route a cable to the OBD II connector, might as well route it to a computer and use the video out to display the gauges and such. |

As far as wiring and mounting the unit they said the unit is small enough to be tucked under the dash for a clean install. so far this sounds good to me. | |

The only thing is that I don't want to cut up my dash to mount something like this nor do I want to remove my factory cluster as this is a daily car. Maybe in a year or two if this car becomes a track only car I will gets this. |

DashDAQ Series II - customizable OBD2 gauges, data logging, dianostics, and GPS Navigation It looks pretty cool to me and something i'm looking into as far as gauges and stuff go. |

| Junior STI Driver | DashDAQ looks cool but it using it's own stand alone 4" monitor kind of sucks. 4" Is small too small imo to be useful while driving and I personally wouldn't want to leave a monitor dangling from my car with some big ass cable draped across my car like they have it in their pictures. ![]() With the HKS CAMP2 you can hook it up to the in dash monitor from your navigation system using RCA cables. I have mine hooked up to my AVIC D3. The CAMP can Datalog for up to 600 seconds with its built in memory and I think you can hook up more sensors to the CAMP than you can the DashDAQ and the CAMP looks much cleaner when installed. ![]() FWIW, The CAMP is very easy to install and comes with everything you need to read from the OBD2. To hook it up all you do is pop your obd2 connection out below the steering wheel and move the harness so you can plug the HKS CAMP in to it and keep the connection out of sight and out of the way and you can run the wire for power to your radio harness then connect the RCA cables to your monitor. Total install time is maybe 30 minutes if you don't mess with external sensors and the optional interface unit. The CAMP2 can display up 24 different items on the screen. to read boost, oil temp, oil pressure and EGT you need the optional interface unit and sensors. (the CAMP will display intake manifold pressure which is what's read by ECU and is what the AP shows. it is the same thing as boost...sort of. I was told by HKS that IN_MANI pressure is measured by a voltage change in another sensor as compaired to actual pressure shown by a boost sensor so IN_MANI is not as accurate.) As far as the external gauges and interface goes they are as easy as any other type of gauge to install maybe easier since the only line you need to run thru the firewall is the one connecting the CAMP to the interface and you can mount the interface in the engine bay, all the external sensors connect to it. The only negative thing I have to say about the CAMP is that the touch screen only works on some things so you need to use the wireless remote that comes with it. | Junior STI Driver | That I am not sure about. The only thing connecting it to the monitor is the RCA cables so I have no clue. I didn't get much of a chance to play with it before I went out of town but, it seemed like I could select "show peak" by using the touch screen. I'll be back home next week and I'll check it out more. The remote sensor is pretty small only about an inch long and maybe half an inch wide so it's easy to hide someplace out of sight and the remote itself is maybe 1.5 inches by 2 inches so it's not like you need to carrying around a T.V. remote to use your CAMP. Using the remote isn't really a problem I only pointed it out because I think the original CAMP had 100% function with touch screens and the CAMP2 doesn't. It's a very cool setup and I researched other options before buying the HKS. I ended up being of the opinion that the CAMP2 was the best solution for what I wanted. The only other thing close was to build a single Din CARPUTER and use the other Din for a fold out screen then hook it all up using ECUTEK. ECU-TEK is cool because you can make custom displays. Before they announced the CAMP2 I was going to go that route and I even made my own STi style 60mm gauges ![]() ![]() it was fairly easy to do I built the graphics in Illustrator then used ECUTEKs code to program the gauges.
