That is amazing... wouldn't think it would be technically possible to control the CAMP via an aftermarket touchscreen without an interface from the touchscreen back to the CAMP. Ahh well, if it works...

I did this in my WRX and while it was very cool, StreetDeck is incredibly versatile and beautiful, running a PC in the car wasn't without it's own challenges. Rather than go that route with my STI, I prefer something closer to OEM (prepackaged, warrantied, etc). Would love to have factory NAV, but the price isn't worth it. I've just ordered an AVIC-D3 and will be ordering a CAMP 2 shortly.

Thanks again for the great info!

I doubt you will be able to listen to music while using the HKS CAMP 2 unless it has an "audio in" connector for an iPod or other device.

The MXL Pista. Is what we run on our Impreza time attack car. Cheaper then a stack dash. And works really well.

Totsubo is correct you'll need an Ipod or something similar to listen to music while displaying the CAMP2.

Here are some pictures of the different displays running on an AVIC D3 for those that are interested.

That looks nice!!

I guess you can use the HKS CAMP 2's video connector and an iPods Audio connector at the same time in "Video" mode.

I hadn't thought of that! Unfortunate if the D3 will not allow you to set the audio and video sources separately!

What about the rear-view camera input??
-Can you select that video mode manually (or is it only by reverse gear sensor)
-When this mode is selected, audio source is pause/muted??

to add to my previous post, i was wondering how the hks camp 2 allows you to use the touch screen for some of its functions. The magden website talks about using the vga and usb port to connect the device but that its possible to use other connections. Can someone explain this further? Thanks

Simple, it's not possible. You need some other connection which unfortunately the stock Nav doesn't have. If someone reports it was working it's because they were using a different setup.

I don't think the touch screen on a nav. head unit would work with the Magden.
You'd need one that connected the touch screen controls to the unit not just the video output

When I first installed my CAMP2 I played with it for maybe 5 minutes before I had to head to the airport, during that time it seemed like when I hit the touch screen it selected "show peak" but after coming back home and playing with it a bit more I found it does not.

Also for those wanting to play audio from another source while displaying the camp2

Your head unit needs to have an option to play audio seperate from the video source selected (there are none of which I am aware) OR

you can connect an Ipod to the Audio connection on the RCA input you are using for the CAMP and then control the audio using the Ipod.
Using something like this
iPod to RCA A/V Connections Adapter - iPod to Audio AND Video RCA Connection Cable that will also provide charging to the iPod when connected (hard-wired) to the vehicle's voltage system. - , Car Installation & Accessories, iPod & MP3 Player Accessor

instead of connecting the audio out of the CAMP2 to the AV Input on the headunit you connect the Ipod RCA cable audio leads leaveing just the video from the CAMP connected.

You lose the audio from the CAMP but can listen to music while it's running.

I don't mean to spam you but since the thread was already started, I thought I'd tell you that we are now selling the Magden M.1b.

magden-auto.com has more info, including screen shots and a downloadable manual.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them here, and I'll do my best to answer them. We are working on the SSM protocol for the non CAN bus based Subarus in order to increase the data speed from the ECU to our M.1 unit. This protocol will be available as an upgrade to any existing units.

Thanks,
