I wouldn't. There have been some logs showing very negative affects of even changing a filter.

What are the negative effects of adding a drop in filter? Does this pertain to all intake kits for 08' STI or just drop in filters?

It negatively affects the accuracy of the MAF readings. There has been some posts with logs about it.

From what I thought is that the MAF measures air temp and air volume going into the motor. With the panel filter being in front of the MAF then the computer/ECU should be able to learn the increased air flow and temp if any and make adjustments as necessary. The percentage of incresed air flow from a drop in filter i think is within the small percentage that the factory ECU can correct with out a problem if need be. I can understand if you use a CAI or something that will drastically increase air flow then maybe the MAF calibration and ECU may not be able to correct itself. correct me if I'm wrong.

I got a drop in filter just so the turbo can grab the air easier, should I switch back to my stock air filter?

Honestly I really havent noticed a differance, but i baby the car. If anything the turbo spools sooner, and it makes life easier on the turbo.

I just got it and put it in today. it idled a little funny for a bit, but it went to normal. after i shut it off and tried to start it later it didn't want to start... but now it's all good. it runs a little better because boost comes about 500rpm sooner.
