Default Fog Lights

Anyone know what type of bulbs the fog lights take. I wanted to change mine to yellow.

Thanks.

From Sylvania's site, the fogs are 9006.

Any suggestions for where to get brighter lamps? The stock fog lamps are ridiculously dim.

HIR 9012 bulbs. I bought a full set (fogs and high beams) here. Haven't installed them yet. Search for a previous thread with HIR 9011.

Ive changed my 08 fogs.

Factory = 9006 (HB4)

You can modify 9005 (HB3) or 9012 or 9011 to fit

PIAA has ion yellows, which come in the size HB, and will fit either 9006 or 9005.

i would never bother with 9012... you can easily mod in 9011 into 9006.

Care to share how you go about changing the bulbs since the manual very helpfully instructs us to go to the dealer.

And anyone changed out the front turn signals?. I already bought silverstars, only to find the bulbs are not accessible, and the manual says "goto dealer"

lay down infront of the car. you will see one plastic clip on the front corner (both sides), and 1 closest to the tyre(bothe sides). remove the one nearest to front of the car. then look under the front bumper, and theres one phillips plastic screw connected to the mini-spash guard. remove it. then man-handle the mini-splash guard out of the way. peer in, and the fog light bulb is sitting right there. change it out and your good.

This weekend, im going to adjust the fogs, since they are incorrectly aimed. the adjuster for the fogs "should" be right beside the 9006 bulb on the inside of the bumper.

I'm so tempted to replace the fog light bulbs with PIAA yellow's because the stock ones won't do me a lick of good in the fog and when I try to use them as driving lights, they provide very little (if any) additional light and ruin the look of the front since they look so pale next to the HIDs. I figure just swap out the bulbs and use them as they were intended, in the fog...which we get maybe twice a year in LA.

I have my whole bumper out of my car and I still can't figure how to get the bulb out. Are you a magician?

Lemme know what I'm doing wrong here... I looked at it for a good 10-15mins and just gave up b/c I was tired from painting. I'll give it another look I guess but I am definitely picking up fog bulbs tomorrow and maybe some others if the price is decent.

^^^ Hold the bulb's connector and turn the bulb (IIRC) counterclockwise.

A few weeks ago I switched to HIR (halogen infrared reflecting) bulbs for high beams (9011 as 9005/HB3 replacement) and fog lights (9012 as 9006/HB4 replacement); they are a fair amount brighter. I can actually tell the fogs are on now.

One thing to note, though: The modification to use these bulbs involves trimming the tab on the bulb AND carefully filing/sanding the plastic in front of the bulb's o-ring down. The second bit was not mentioned anywhere; the HIR bulbs' additional plastic in front of the o-ring caused the bulbs to seize in the sockets. One of my bulbs wouldn't even go all the way in before seizing.

Also of note, the 9011 has the same power draw as the stock 9005 (65W); the 9012 has the same power draw as the stock 9006 (55W). Using the 9011 to replace a 9006 might blow your fog light fuse. The 9012 is reportedly 1700 lumens while the 9011 is 2300 lumens, however the expected lifetime of the brighter 9011 is also about 1/4 of the 9012. The brighter fogs still might be worth it for some people, but I just want people to be aware of the different power loads and lifetimes.

Finally, modifying the foglight rearward facing reflector/blocker thing might yield good results for brightness, so long as the beam can still be properly shaped. I'm eventually going to give that a shot and I'll post pics if people are interested.
