Default noise coming from inside door panel

okay... so we've had a few threads about all the funny noises that our cars make.
and now it's my turn to start a new one

it seems to be coming from inside my (drivers) door, only after i turn the ignition to the "on" position, before starting the car. as if there was a fuel pump in the door priming (yes i know, silly analogy). but it sounds different. hard to describe.

does anyone know what is in there that makes a "start up noise" when turning the ignition to "on" ?

Does it happen with the stereo off? My only thought is the speaker making some kind of sound. I know if I plug an aux cable in but don't hook it up to anything, the head unit amplifies all kinds of funny car sounds.

yeah, my radio is always off
i'm pretty sure that it's not the speaker doing this.

I'll listen for it next time I'm in the car. One guess - seat belt pre-tensioner?

edit: nope, I do not hear this in my piggy.

Yeah.. mine makes that sound, too. It only lasts for a second, though. I'm not so sure it comes from the door, but the left side of the dash instead.

Read up on the section of your manual that talks about the traction control. There is a startup hydraulic test that the car does every time you start the car, lasts about 12-15 seconds. You can hear it even more so if your hood is open.
