Experiencing winter in April in Calgary (not too uncommon) has started me thinking about tires and wheels for next year. I'll want a new set of rims, and am thinking the 17" rims would make the most sense (narrower tire, more psi and all that).

What winter wheels/tires are you guys using? Are you happy with them? What would you recommend/suggest?

(I hope the winter stops so I can start driving my new car again)

I've still got my snows on here in Colorado as well, but they will come off soon. It snowed last week. I run 18x8.5 +48 Rota P1s with Gislaved Nord Frost 5 rubber, without the studs in. I run a narrow sidewall as well, and I've popped one already after Knieveling off a pothole, but that's why I buy the warranty 17s would be cheaper and probably make more sense, but I love the way the 18s look and the car handles the snow so well that the wide 18s are really fun.

Hey Smiley, I'm in the same boat here in Calgary. I pick my car up this Wednesday. Hopefully this last dump of snow was the last. I'll be interested in what you decide with rims and tires. I'm probably going to get mine in August. I'm thinking Tire Rack.

i used kal tires house brand (CR racing) Erglanz rims 17x7.5 +40 with Nokian rsi 225/50 tires.

the painted version of the rims was around $140, i paid $225 for the chrome ones

the RSI's are phenomenal, an added bonus was the wheels were entirely inside the wheel wells so no chipping.

Don't forget the annual may long weekend snowfall

That sounds good. I'll check out Kal Tire. I assume they could do the sensors for you?

I'm totally expecting snow in May, but I just don't want to drop the money on new rims and tires until later in the summer. I'll just park the car during snow for the rest of this winter season.

Really! I didn't know that. I'm actually glad about that. I don't mind checking tire pressure and I'm glad not to have to bother with the sensors.

Same wheel...different offsets:

Enkei NT03+m 18x9.5 +27 (2)
Enkei NT03+m 18x9.5 +40 (2)

EDIT: FYI they fit with no spacers needed.

Not sure on the +27.
But on the +40 you will need 10MM spacers, and longer studs.
