GUys,
I got a 08sti and on mornings I hear that sound too during my first start up. The sound to me is like sucking out of a straw out of a near empty carton. regardless if I step the clutch in or not if I rev up to 3-4k rpms the sound goes away.
Another thing I experienced is if I am at a traffic light reving my engine the car sounds great. However, if I have the clutch in and i rev to 3000-4500 rpm range at a stand still the car makes the similar sound i hear in the mornings during start ups.
anyone else experieneced this or tried it?
thanks

Add another to the list. I'm hearing it too. Picked the car up last friday, didn't notice it at all until Wed morning (it was just below 30f) and have heard it each startup since.

This shouldn't be "normal", out of all the manual cars I've owned I've never had this happen unless something like the TO bearing was worn out.

I'd like to know if anyone has actually replaced a clutch in one of these yet and been able to verify if it was the TO bearing or input shaft.

Not the throwout bearing, its actually the tranny. This is normal, its called neutral gear rattle and you hear more when the tranny is cold. No new clutch or throwout bearing will fix this.

Its not hurthing anything, so learn to live with it. The dodge vipers and zo6 vetts have the same issue.

Since it is "normal" I guess my question would then be, if the people that live in the cold are not hearing this, does that mean that something is wrong with their car?

I can understand if someone said "the ticking sound the boxer engine makes is normal", because all boxers sound that way. But not all transmissions make this noise.

<rant>
It's just annoying when you pay $30k+ for a car, and it has a rattle that sounds like a car 10+ years old that the heat shields are rusting off.

go to dealer they have a DTB on it i think if your car is before a certain build date they replace the trans or something like that
