Default Radar detector install

Does anyone know if the dome light at the front of the car has constant 12V power? I want to hard wire up my radar detector. Also, does that dome just pop off, or would I have to remove the headliner to get to the wiring!

Search, and you will find a write up with pics. Yes the map light has an ignition on hot wire. It also has a constant on but I don't know why you'd want that.

I hard wired mine into the fuse panel. the radar sits on dash at the a pilar and wiring goes down into the dash to the fuse panel. there is an open port and the power is constant when key is on. That is how I did mine.

Documented this a few weeks back and also addressed it in another thread earlier today.

the pics are dead on, but i'd recommend buying and learning to use a test light. It's a simple enough project to learn through and knowing how to use a test light can save you a lot of trouble when you move onto more complex projects. Goodluck!

Better than a test light, is a Mutlimeter. Much more useful in a variety of situations. Here's an inexpensive one from Radio Shack.

I also picked up one that packs small enough that I can carry it in my motorcycle tool pouch.
