Default Startup in S# and Auto -ve

This may be a "read the manual' question, but is there anyway to make the car start up in S# and Auto -ve ? It's a bit tedious having to do this each time I turn the thing on.

Nope. It defaults to S if you turn the car off in S or S# and I if you turn the car off in I mode. It always defaults to auto for the DCCD.

Tedious....it is two buttons that are a few inches apart. Annoying possibly, but certainly not tedious. I'm just jealous I can't even take advantage of S# yet because I'm only at like 150 miles...looks like a long trip this weekend maybe

c'mon, let everything come up to operating temperature, flick it in S#, and let 'er rip!

I agree! I let it slip past 4K once or twice. Besides, there's no mention of staying out of S# in the break-in procedures. The way I figure it, they're always VERY conservative in the manual so even if you deviate slightly, you should be ok. That's how I justified it anyway...

I fully believe in the "full rpm" break-in method. (not abusive, but full throttle through the full rpm range to allow the rings to seat under pressure. Make sure you let it completely warm up first. To warm up, I prefer to drive it very easily under 3k rpm instead of letting it sit and run cold for several minutes.

Anyways, yeah it's a little irritating to have to switch it every time you start the car, but you can always have the S mode tuned by a shop for better power than S#, but that would mean using the dial becomes pointless unless you want an economy mode (I).

As far I know I don't believe you can tune S to be faster than S#. The ECU holds one map, and the SI drive changes throttle response and is not tunable. If you get the car tuned, the throttle response change will simply be applied to your new tune. I believe with certain tuning systems you can bypass SI drive entirely.

bigd, where in Denver are you? I think I've seen your car at a gas station on the corner of 104th and I-25.

I've read more about it and I believe you're correct, the stock ECU will still change the parameters for each I-Drive setting...

I probably wasn't me, I rarely make it north of downtown and spend 99% of my time between Englewood and Littleton.

The difference between S and S# is a throttle map. If you are protuned by an AP tuner they should absolutely be able to set those throttle maps however you like. I fully intend to have Sport mode be set to my highest boost level when I get tuned - I can't stand having to get in the car and twist that damn knob every time I start it.

Here's something fun, drive in "I" mode and floor it, at about 3k rpm's switch to s#, and it's like WOW.

Ya I know, someone will say I'll break it.
