Default 08 Boost controller?

How come I haven't seen any 08's with a boost controller mod?

The turbo boost still tapers down toward redline so I would assume a boost controller is a smart addition to the car.

On the tuned Evo X's a boost controller has been used a couple times to improve boost, and the car has improved hugely.

In addition to the AP, wouldn't a boost controller be beneficial?

thanks in advance

Mostly because the 08's are still new..... hell only one one here has done a turbo upgrade! Give it time.

Probably because the factory ECU can control boost better than pretty much any stand alone boost controller on the market.

i doubt you'll find many 04-07 owners on this board that have them either. Most people agree that relying on engine management to control boost is the safest way to go.

The SI drive pretty much acts like a boost controller with 3 settings. Most boost controllers only have a high and low setting. The only thing a boost controller can do that the SI drive can't do is set the psi to whatever you want it to be on the fly. So i think most people with 08's don't really even need a boost controller, so thats why your not going to see to many of them.

A manual boost controller would make the SI drive, essentially useless, since it would be trying to hit the same target boost, regardless of the SI setting...

Plus, the AP does an awesome job.... this car feels completely different.

I know that a boost controller would keep the boost the same in i,s,s# but it would still do the thottle postioning. Can't get an AP right now I'm very low on cash.

But it's more than "just" throttle positioning...

It also adjust the boost curve significantly... with the AP installed, the effects are even MORE dramatic. In "I" mode, I feel like I'm driving a Honda Civic...

Getting tuned on the ecu boost control will be fine. The boost curve on VF turbos is always like that. We won't see as much gain as evoX's because they can safely boost to 24-25psi on pump gas, and the turbo makes high rpm power at those ranges..our stock turbo and pistons can't do that.

I don't see why somebody low on cash would want to mod their brand new car with factory engine tuning that has been proven time and time again to be problematic? If you don't have enough spare cash around to do things like replace a popped engine, you should not be looking to do things like foolishly turning up the boost without remapping. If money were a problem, I'd hang out with stock tuning all the way through warranty period. At least by then, hopefully I'd have saved enough for an AP. Until then 305 horses is more than enough for me.

^ Very well put. Just simply raising the boost has very ill consequences..thats why a tuned package is worth saving for lol.
