IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | I've found three so far, the COBB, Perrin and KArtBoy. Can anyone comment on the usability of the these (rattling, tranny whine, movement effort, distance, accuracy, etc). Anything that annoys you about them or a first-time buyer should be aware of? I'm leaning towards the COBB, if for no other reason than it has adjustability and I'll know there's something cool-looking under the shift boot. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This ad is not endorsed by this member. | Professional STI Racer | Im not knocking your opionion in the least bit, but Im more on the side of thinking that the stock shifter is excellent. I just came out of a rock crushing G35 that I despised. The STi's transmission is a welcome respit. I like the idea of having a high shifter with short, crisp throws. Having a shifter parked down in the tunnel is kind of counter intuitive, especially since you cant actually shift the gears any faster. |

With that said, bushings may go a long way on the STi, but I couldn't tell the difference with my old LGT.

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | It doesnt drop the shifter that much. Everyone who has a kartboy SS will agree that it makes a huge difference. Before I switched them out, I could wiggle the shifter while in gear but now with the SS, it clicks into gear which is great! I'd suggest driving a sti with a shortshifter..... |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | I dont really have access to anyone else with a STI. I am coming out of a s2000 which is world class in its shifting. Maybe I should start with the bearing and go form there. I'll probably want to use the bearing on the new shifter anyway, so its not money wasted I guess. Does anyone have the COBB yet? |

| Authorized Vendor | I installed the full bushing setup that we offer last weekend and really like the feeling thus far. Much more precise and solid feeling, but that was to be expected. The bushings are what make the shifter feel precise. The short shifter simply shortens the throws. Tony |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | That's exactly what I'm looking for. I don't think the stock ****er's throw is too long, but I think it looks too tall inside the car. It definatley needs to be tighter though. How would compare it with a Hurst or a Pro 5.0 on a Mustang? I have to imagine that the mustang's shifter options are tighter. |

So it sounds like I'll want to do the shifter and bushings to stiffen and shorten the throws. Is it common for more noise or vibration to enter the cabin when installing aftermarket shifters? This was a common problem on the corvettes.

You'll definitely notice more gear noise with the stiffer bushings. I notice it a lot in the lower revs and lower gears. By 5th and 6th though it is pretty much gone. Tony This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad.
