Finally someone that can confirm this. So did you swap the tire pressure sensors or did those come with them or what?

I bought another set of TPMS sensors for the winter wheels.

Good plan. Two more noobish questions. Did you have to get the new TPMS sensors scanned, and if so, who did it (or does that only apply to the Subaru factory TMPS)? Also, did you have to remove the tape weights for the front wheels to keep them from being scraped off by the calipers? Thanks.

My bad, I hadn't seen your thread, not searching hard enough.

Searching wouldn't have done you any good - those pics show the wheels but they're in a thread about something else and there's no mention of them.

A dealer needs to mate the TPMS sensors to the car. I mounted new tires on my wheels, so I didn't start with pre-existing wheel weights.

If your wheels came off an STI, I would imagine that the weights would clear the 08 Brembos.

What if I used the ones that are currently in the wheels in my car? Could I just have any old tire mounting business swap them since they are only changing wheels and tires and the TPMS are simply moving from one set of wheels to another?

Yeah true, i forgot i put the pics in a different thread, not one of the 3 or 4 that i said i was running the older wheels on my 08. Sorry about the confusion.

As far as weights go, i went with lip mounted weights because i was pretty sure the calipers will not clear adhesive weights. When i measured there was about 10mm of clearance at the closest point of the caliper to the ID of the rim, the adhesive weights i have are around 7mm high. (spongy adhesive plus the actual weight itself).
I wasn't concerned with looks, so hammering them on the lip was of no issue to me, but if you really dislike lip weights the sticky ones will mayyyybe work.

You could buy my brand new 08 sti take-offs and then pull the tires off as spares (or find someone to buy the tires):

FS: MD/VA 2008 STI stock wheels and Dunlop tires -110 miles! - NASIOC

Yeah, I'd like to just sell the the wheels and tires as is as I would like to stick to 17's, and hey, maybe some '06 STI owner will want to swap. I can dream.

going narrower isnt always the case for winter. if you normally drive on snow packed roads, then yes, narrow is better. but for me, most of the roads are plowed, so your left with ice. like traction in the summer, the wider, the better. the winder the winter tyre, the more sipes, which increases ice traction.

so its a delicate balance between wide or narrow.

like yourself, i already own 245/40R18 nokian RSi. Soon i will be on the prowl for 08 non-BBS rims or Rota Torque (18x8.5 +48 offset)

I've got an 08 on order and will most likely get some black rota torques - 17X8 +48 .

Tires I may need some help with. I want decent sidewall to keep rocks/ice and gravel from chipping up my rims. Not too concerned about width, as i'm on packed snow so rarely, but do have ice, and wet gravel on my hill.
