Default 08 nav lcd cluster->mod to show boost, etc?

in the nav of the 08 wrx sti there is an info button. this brings up a panel that allows selection an interesting array of info displays (but they are mostly useles)
1)an mpg indicator, since there is already one above the dash next to the clock-this is redundant. it is a bar graph that stretches across the whole screen and bounces left to right as your mpg changes,
2) a maintenance schedule
3) three analog style dials that show avg mpg, instant mpg, and accel (how far the gas pedal is depressed). AGAIN with the mpg-this is the third gauge for this! It would be nice if i could sacrifice one of these pages to put up three dials of my own choosing - boost, temp, press, etc.

is this possible?

I've been wondering about hacking vehicle information in the nav too. I'll bet that it is possible since there appears to be access to the ECU, but I'm guessing it will be a while before anyone will figure out how to do it: maybe never. Even better would be controlling map selection from the nav.

Since AccessPort can display real time data like boosting level, AFR,intake temp..., It shouldn't be too hard to have them displayed on stock NAVI screen. Subaru should have made them in the first place. We already got a mpg indicator next to the clock, there is no point to have two more under the info screen again.
We got three nice analog style gauges, but we cannot change what information can be displayed. What a waste!

It would be nice to have some after market software or even a update from Subaru to improve the usability of these digital gauges. I am sure Subaru is fully capable of doing this.

Look at what R35 got ! That is something we want in a STi !Not some crappy and repetitive MPG gauges. I'd even pay extra for these fancy gauges.

Ya I really hope Subaru creates a package you can buy from the dealer. Forsure I would pay for that !. Such a shame to not have digital gauges in the Nav screen.

The GTR's are amazing..... it has like every single possible reading you would ever need.

COME ON SUBARU !!!!

I know this isn't the most integrated solution, but since theres video-in, couldn't we just figure out a way to display the gauge/datalogging info through there from either an AccessPort or something similar?

Ya you could......but this really should have been something that came from factory. I wonder what the chances of Subaru actually doing this. I would be willing to bet that a hack of some kind is more likely than an actual Subaru issued solution.

Since it is able to pull the TPS info from the ECU (assuming) if the NAV software is programmed properly, it should be as simple as defining a min/max value for each data source and the source (boost/MAP, AFR, IGN, etc.) Unfortunately, I'm not sure how this information would be uploaded other than through a NAV firmware update (not familiar with NAV systems.) I also doubt you would ever be able to interface with external aftermarket sensors like oil temp, EGT, wideband O2, etc.

I've created a "petition" style thread to gauge interest in this sort of feature. Please post in that thread only if it is a feature you would like to see. It's unlikely this thread would convince Subaru to release an update for MY08, but maybe it might help convince them to make it a feature for MY09.

You can use the video-in but then you cannot listen to the radio or CD

Since I didn't get the nav option, I'm planning on installing a double-din car computer and wiring it to the OBD-II port in a year or so when I can afford it. With a little tweaking I should be able to get a functional virtual gauge cluster.

It could be possible with a hacked firmware and what is held in the firmware. Does anyone know how the nav is tied into the ecu Is it straight tapped in or is there any sort of middle decoder between the ecu and nav.
