Default 2008 STi Cobb AccessPort w/Perrin Mapping

has anyone tried this yet? I just purchased my accessport from Perrin and will be trying their 91 octane map. Should be on the car later this week.

Well, not quite. I loaded the Cobb 91-Cali (de)tuned and have a noticeable difference when the tach hits the fun zone. I suspect the Perrin tune will be similar to the Cobb tune.

If i get a AccessPORT from Perrin, can i also download and use Cobb OTS maps?

I am asking this because Perrin is currently offering their OTS maps for free with purchase of a AccessPORT. It would be a good deal if both the Cobb maps is pre-loaded in the Accessport as well as Perrin maps.

I live in vancouer, and we have 94 Octan gas, near 0 elevation and cool climate. Is Perrin OTS maps going to give me a little more power than the Cobb ones?

If someone does this... please start a new thread with results comparing the two, ESPECIALLY if you get dyno data. I'll be trying to decide between the two tunings myself.

well i just got a note from Perrin that the AccessPorts for the 08 STis are backordered. ETA late this week. I'm going to check both Cobb and Rallysport to see if they have any in stock.

I got my AP from Perrin, and tried both maps. I'll need to go back and try them each again, and I should be able to get some Dyno time in the next week as well for a real comparison, but my initial impression was that the Cobb OTS map felt much stronger than the Perrin map. For what it's worth...

I got an AP from Perrin and also received their 93octane map for a complete stock 08 STI. I have only loaded and used the stock COBB 93octane map for a complete stock 08 STI. My boost maxes out at 17.8psi. I was about to load the Perrin map when I noticed the description in the AP manager software that Perrin wrote 16psi max. Lost interest and never bothered to waste a flash. COBB map compared to SOA map is beyond delicious but a real ticket magnet

When you apply the maps does it affect all three modes (I, S, and S#) or can you load the map into a specific mode?

Yes to first half of the question, no to the 2d half. You can only load one map at a time and the SI-Drive tweaks each one accordingly.

I thought Perrin tuned map suppose to be higher tuned version of Cobb map, right? Their maps are based on Cobb tuned maps?

Perrin's stage 1 map should also has 7K redline. Maybe you should try both and see which one has better feel and drivability.

Would you try both map on a dyno and see which one has more gain?

Their graph shows more than 16psi. I am a little confused.

Since the Perrin maps were out weeks before Cobb's, I don't believe they are "based on" the Cobb maps. I think they are Perrin's own work using the stock map as a start. Other tuners were tuning with the new AP long before Cobb had maps available also.

As for which is better: this is why it would be nice to see a series of back-to-back dyno runs with these maps. Until someone does that, we'll have no idea. We don't even know if the map that produced that dyno run is what Perrin is selling with their AP.

This is the e-mail that I got from Jeff @ Perrin yesterday:

Quote:
Q1: What AFR are you targeting under full load?

Q2: Does this resolve the closed/open loop delay issue? (I didn't have to worry about this with my '05 sigh)

Q3: What kind of power increase over the Cobb OTS maps are we talking about? What are the primary differences?

A1,2,3: The standard Cobb maps are included, and downloadable from their site.

Q4: How are the other SI drive modes mapped? I understand that SI Drive essentially affects throttle mapping and requested torque. Will it be similar to stock behaviour? My wife will be driving the car, so I would like Sport and Intelligent modes to act similar to stock (though ultimately with more power and better AFR.)

A4: The I drive changes the boost essentially. Depending on when you buy it, it will be maped so "I" is WG boost, "S" is about 16psi, and "S#" is about 18psi.

Q5: Does your Stage 1 map restore the 7K rpm redline?

A5:yes 7000 is the redline on our maps.

Q6: I will be running Sunoco Ultra 94 all the time and where I live is around 200-500ft asl. Should this map be relatively safe to run?

A6: Is this map safe?? WAY safe for 94 octane, and depending on when you buy it, we may have a 94 octane map for you.

Q7: Also, do you have any of these new APs in-stock?

A7: They are in stock as we speak! Give us a ring!

Thanks for the useful info.

I just ordered my AccessPort from Perrin yesterday.
I get their stage1(93 Octane) map for free ,but i am sure which version of their stage1 map i am going to get.

I heared the Perrin map only boosts up to 16 psi while cobb's boots 18 psi.

I just emailed them about this confusion. Hopefully i can a definite answer soon.
