I see the Perrin STi AP is offered with 91, 92 or 93 octane tunes, but in one of the above posts it says the 93 tune was done using 92 octane. In my area we have both 92 and 93 available, and in a pinch I'd like the option of using 92. Do I order the 92 or 93 tune?

I'm assuming the AP is preloaded with the tune chosen and is ready to install into the car when shipped, is that correct? TIA

just installed the 93 octane stage 1 map on my o8 sti. Palpable change. the drama from going to S# from I is even more pronounced. S# makes you feel airborne. The I setting makes it feel like an econobox-the shifting is a lot smoother as the torque doesnt make the car jump. When driving on I at -4.5 psi vacuum, switching from I to S# adds 4.5 psi boost. At 0 psi , the switch to S# adds 7 psi boost. you can imagine the energy. As a daily driver, S is great for accelerating onto the highway, especially since the gearing is a little tight in 1st and 2nd. Jeff emailed the map the day I asked for it. Very congenial secretary-how do you find good help these days? Canadian?

My question has to do with reading the ecu-can the access port download the historical info-boost, rpm, etc.? I know it'll do 0-60 times and quarter mile times, but i'd like a little more data to peruse over a longer time period. How much data is stored in the ecu?

Thanks again for the great work.

You need to download ECU Explorer and the Cobb AP cable drivers (located on Cobb's site) in order to data log from the ECU. The AP only provides "live" data and doesn't have a recording facility. The ECU does not store historical data.

so then the ecu does not store any information? i thought a dealer could know if the map had been changed and then restored?

The map information is static (excluding Cobb's real-time maps, which are essentially static maps in volatile memory). The live data comes from the ECU collecting various information from external sensors, which can then be polled via the OBDII port.

The ECU does store fault codes (CEL, other system failure codes, etc.)

As for the dealership checking for a ECU change, if they look at the checksum or other properties (not 100% sure what they are called in the ECU), they might be able to detect that it is different. Honestly though, just tell them you don't want any ECU updates done on the car and you should be fine.

FYI:

the current AccessPORT programming will not allow an AccessPORT flashed ECU to be overwritten.(flashed over)

This was done as many customers had complained that there was a non warranty service fee to re-program an Accessport as un-installed after the dealer erased an AccessPORT license. To keep this from happening and keep the AccessPORT happily licensed on the ECU the ECU will not be "flashable" by other systems.

It can be read (datalogged, etc) but not programed. Keep in mind this may not apply to old firmware flashes. Only current firmware.

Whoa... you can still reflash with the original (stock) map if you need to, yes? (before dealer visits)

update. a phone call to jeff and we figured out that the first effort to e-mail me the map must have ended up snagged by the junk mail filters. he sent it to me again and it got there within minutes.

great folks to deal with!

i'm still playing with the Cobb stage 1 91 octane map. WOW! what a difference. once i get used to it, i'll then try to Perrin 93 octain s1 that i got in the e-mail. i want to be able to notice the differences from familiarity.

While I may be in the minority, this sounds ideal to me.

S-Set to about 16psi, same low end throttle response as stock S# setting, but more aggressive at really low RPM.
S#-Set to 18psi, Same low end throttle resonse as stock S#.

So from there, what do YOU guys want? We want to keep things consistent for all of our future maps, and now is a good time to nail that down. Opinions please, and if you have a reason for your idea, please put that also.
Just about ready to order an AP2... wondering if I should wait for the Perrin 08 STI TBE to be available??

That's hot! My dealer once did that to me by "upgrading" my ECU without asking me, I had to send the AP back to Cobb to be reset!

We should probably still set the ECU to stock before we take our cars to service. Better safe than sorry.

When you download a map from the AP, the AP becomes "married" to your ECU. That is, you can no longer connect your AP to another ECU and download a map. This is how Cobb protects their licensing. However, once you have loaded a map using the AP, you can always elect to use the AP to "return to stock" option. This will put the stock map to your ECU and it will "un-marry" the AP from your ECU.
