Ummm...that is REAL bad. Unless you RACE everywhere you go, I say get a compression/leakdown test.

SirMattieP, if you are going off the car MPG gauge most likely this is incorrect. Run an actual MPG test by filling up, use up the tank and then fill'er up again and do your calculations.

I am also running this map and all of my driving is town driving and on the car MPG gauge I read 14.3 avg... I am guessing this is about 2-3 mpg off of the actual mpg (I do haul ass everywhere i go though). I'll admit I haven't done the mpg calculations myself, because I don't really care... The Perrin map is so strong I can't keep from mashing the go peddle to the floor.

My calculations and the trip computer mirror one another most of the time.

For the first time I actually ran the calculations and she's dead on... I drive 11 miles per day, 8 of those miles are on a freeway going 75-80mph. Every morning getting onto that freeway I go WOT and ease off at 75-80... The rest of the driving is all easy mode. I average 15.5mpg with Perrin Stage 1 - 91 ACN (S# Mode).

I've run the 1.00 and 1.01 versions of the Cobb Stage 1 93 Octane map, and the Perrin Stage 1 93 Octane map, which is what I'm currently using.

Normal driving ("normal" for me, anyway), mostly highway, 70-75 MPH, with at least a few good WOT pulls daily, S#, Auto-, in other words, "fun," averages around 18-19MPG. Using hypermilling techniques (minimizing acceleration and braking, coasting in neutral when possible, I mode, keeping revs to low-ideal range, cruise control, max speed 65 MPH, etc), in other words, "no fun," I get 24-25 MPG.

Since I drive around 40 miles a day on average, at $4.30/gal for 93 Oct (it's just a bit under that now), that's a max difference between $9.56/day and $6.88/day for gas, which means it costs me about $2.68/day more to have fun when I drive. Leaving aside the environmental impact of burning 28% more gas (which I do in fact care about, one reason I switched from an oil boiler in the house to 100% wood-fired heat a few years ago), I think that $2.68/day is still really cheap fun. I definitely have changed my driving habits somewhat, and maybe my next car will be an electric vehicle, powered off of a microhydro generator (2012 Tesla Roadster? ;>) In the meantime, though, I'll enjoy my 08 STI with the Perrin map, and smile every time I go WOT.

ah... stop complaining about gas. you guys have it cheap. in the great white north its $5.49/gal (regular 87), and my 94 octane is $6.09/gal.

The problem isn't the price, it's that 91 octane is the highest available in California. I'd gladly pay more for 93 or 94. In fact, I don't mind if gas is $5 rather than $4. It just means fewer SUVs clogging my favorite mountain roads. Given the 600 gallons I burn a year in my cars (about 15K miles) that's all of 600 more dollars a year... hardly a big deal in the grand scheme.

Yup, I am not complaining about the price... It's that I paying more for really crappy gas. I can't wait for gas prices to hit EU levels, opening up the roads for the enthusiasts!

Exclamation Re: 2008 STi Cobb AccessPort w/Perrin Mapping

I have Cobb's AP 2 and what I can say is that Cobb 91 1.01 map feels the most powerful and smoothest compared to Cobb 91 ACN 1.01 and Perrin 91. Cobb 91 1.01 is first place, Perrin 91 is 2nd place and Cobb 91 ACN 1.01 in 3rd place. Actually, Cobb 91 ACN 1.01 feels worse than stock. Anyone else having the same experience? Oh by the way, Cobb 91 1.01 is the bomb, but it does throw the CEL 0244 code often.
