You like stage 1 that much huh? I wonder how much you will like stage 2 over stage 1. Then again the custome tune with all your mods

Well, I was equally impressed with Stage 2 as I was with Stage 1. Two VERY worthwhile mods to extract a lot more power for not a lot of money, relatively speaking.

I was driving around in it to see how horrible it was and while it was sluggish, I could definitely see how someone would get a use out of it for cruising, taking it easy around busy city streets, and using it for enhanced throttle precision in low-traction situations.

I do agree about S-mode. I tend to find myself flicking it into S# almost immediately after it is fully warmed up (5-10km...just an estimate without an oil temp gauge).
I wasn't arguing against having the the "slow" mode I just don't see the point of having two different slow/economy modes. The anti-theft - I mode - could be used any time you park the car - b/c again the car defaults to I mode if you leave in I mode. To prevent (or minimize) unauthorized use of your car.

Anyway, just my different view.

Why do you need your laptop hooked up and logging before your willing to go WOT? Please Explain.

Great, so what's the point of the S mode then?

I hate when my stock car defaults to S - sometimes I forget about it and wonder why is the car so sluggish? oh yeah, it's in S mode. I wish it just stayed in S#.

It's not even so much the acceleration as it is the smoothness. The lack of hesitation is totally noticeable and makes the acceleration feel more like my '05...though faster.
What octane gas? 93?
Did you try the Perrin map for comparo?

I think I'm ready for the AP, I was waiting to break the car in, but I'm already at 700 miles and it sounds like I don't need wait anyway.
I will probably get it from the Perrin if it's the same price and comes with an extra Perrin map.

I thought I had already explained this to you?

Every car behaves differently. We don't know exactly how Cobb created the 93 octane map, what elevation it was tested at, the condition of the car, etc. I run 94 octane which contains up to 10% ethanol, I'm at near sea-level, and therefore, before I start ripping on the car I want to datalog at WOT to see how my car took to stage 1. I'll be able to see timing, dynamic advance, boost, AFR, MAF, etc. This will give me a better idea of how the car is managing, if it is pulling any timing in the rev range, and basically if it is happy with the off-the-shelf stage 1. I write and test software for a living, so this is like debugging for me.

Even though I sound enthusiastic, I'm not a newb (though I'm certainly not a tuning expert by any means). I've been around long enough and seen enough datalogs, including my own, to know that the off-the-shelf maps, while generally safe, don't always take well. My '05 was a perfect example. The stage 2 93 oct map didn't take very well to my car. A Protune solved that.

------------------------

As for stage 1, it really is amazing how much faster the car is than my '05 at stage 1. The torque down low almost feels as strong as my protuned stage 2 map. When you consider the longer gearing, it's crazy that it feels that strong.

I honestly haven't tried the Perrin map yet for three reasons:

1. It alters boost levels by mode. I didn't want this. I'd prefer to have the same boost for all modes but different throttle mappings/torque targets.

2. From what I was told, Perrin used 92 octane to create the 93 octane map. Maybe Cobb did the same thing, I don't know. It's more #1 that turns me off. Now, Jeff was very kind to offer me a map that didn't alter boost levels.

3. Feedback here from other stage 1 users has indicated that the Cobb stage 1 map is stronger in the midrange than the Perrin map. For me, on the street, mid-range is important. Once I start tracking the car again, I'll be getting a Protune, but right now mid-range is what I want.

It's weird. My '05 stage 1 was kind of "meh". I could feel the difference initially, but then a couple days later it just didn't seem that big of a deal. With my '08 though...wow. Maybe the stock tune is just THAT ****ty but my god.... Looking at the dyno charts, I can only imagine what a Protuned stage 2 will be like with this car.

With that said, I've promised my wife no more power mods until we replace her car. Honestly, I'd rather work on handling this time around instead of going the power route first, which is what I did last time.

94 I'm in 91 ACN country...

thanks for the feeback... I'm looking to increase the power earlier on under 3K, I hate gunning the engine every time on a light to get the car going

My only concern with Cobb is that I think their rev limit is unchanged whereas Perrin increased it to 7K

Digital(donīt call me friend)fiend;
Out of curiosity,
Are you going to wait for stage 2 to get it protuned?
Are you going to stick with the Cobb DP or do you have something else in mind for Stage 2?
MEX.

So since we know this about the Cobb Maps... Now whats the 1, 2, 3 on Perrin Maps? haha this is valuable information for Meh lol

MEX.
I think stage 1 is safe enough to not worry about a Protune. The downpipe I had in my '05 was a mix of Crucial Racing and MadDad. The Crucial was a beautifully coated shorty DP and the MadDad (midpipe) had a nice stock looking hi-flow cat. By the time I go stage 2, MadDad will probably have a nice divorced wastegate setup.

If and when I go stage 2, I'm definitely getting a Protune. I really doubt most people will luck out like GilMikalian did with the OTS map. I may even consider getting CP forged pistons so I can get a more aggressive Protune. With my '05, I asked for a conservative tune for road racing and the car ran great but it could have made more power. But stage 2 is not going to happen in the near future.
