Default Steering Responds !?

Well I've only had my STi for alittle while and i would like to know if there is anyway i can make the steering alittle more respondive? What i mean by that is maybe a tighter feel, alittle less play. The last car i had was way more.. i dont know.. twitchy.. i guess. Any recommandations would be great.

One cheap mod is to upgrade the steering rack bushings. A lot of people have found that to make the steering feel much better.

Also a better alignment may help. I think I remember reading that the stock Subaru alignment feels kinda 'dead.'

Steering rack bushings, more negative camber, larger front swaybar, anti-lift kit all improve steering feel. However, the absolute best mod I have done for steering feel is an 11.5:1 quick rack.

Wow !! you actuallly changed the whole steering rack. ( are the gearing inside it )

Do you know a good place to find bushing kits for the STi. There is no shop in the general area, and i cant really find to many places to find bushings on the net for the car.

Yeah, it's a stock steering rack rebuilt with new gearing. Whiteline makes just about any bushing you can imagine for these cars. Give RaceComp Engineering a call, they can put something together for you

^Thats where I would start.

Only half of your tire is hooked up on the front during turning.

The STi comes with a less aggressive alignment than a Honda Odyssey.

I actually had my car aligned by a subie dealer not to long ago. I told them about my experieance with the car and he also said the alignment. So he set it up for more negative camber. I beleive my camber is a -0.5 on all tires right now. I admit, it made the car feel alot better but it still dont give me the feel I am looking for.

Still not enough -camber up front. And I guarantee that you have atleast -1.3 in the back.

In the rear? No...but rear camber will give you more grip in the rear....you dont need any more grip back there.

Im running -2.5 up front at the moment

From what I've seen, as far as alignments for a DD STI go, you want:

0 toe all around
-1 to -1.5 camber front
-1 camber rear

I'm probably going to do -1.5 in the front whe nI have my alignment done.

(There was a thread here somewhere where someone had their new STI checked and it had *positive* camber on the front.)
