| Junior STI Driver | Chances are it's the differentials grabbing. Shouldn't happen ALL the time, you might want to have the diff fluid checked to see if it's burnt (sometimes causes binding). Lastly, if you notice this at autox, then yes this is completely normal. If it's happening continuously on the street, I would have it checked. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | have you had your diff fluid changed? did they use the jdm spec 90wt? my '05 has never had the diff binding/clunk issue. i have always made sure to use the subaru 90wt. it seems no other fluid is gl-5 and has the right additives to make this part function properly. if you do have the right fluid in the diffs...you are experiencing a very typical situation. don't be too alarmed. -alex |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | Shadow, the situation i am ref to is the diff bind/clunk. Many owners with our car get a clunk or binding in the diff especially when turning slowly and sharply. I have heard of this happening even on brand new STi's. Now, without the proper diff fluid in the rear, it will also cause a binding sensation. Story for all those who use dealerships. I called up five of my local dealerships to see if they had the 90wt GL-5 subaru diff oil for my car. MY FIVE LOCAL DEALERSHIPS DID NOT HAVE IT IN STOCK. when i asked these dealerships what they used for changing the rear diff fluid, THEY ALL TOLD ME THEY USE THE 75-90 STUFF THAT GOES IN THE WRX. these techs are totally misinformed. i spoke with several techs and parts guys and they all gave me the same WRONG answer. now, if you are not using the proper diff fluid (the subaru 90 wt is gl-5 and has the proper additives) your diff will clunk and bind!!! makes you wonder how subaru train their tech for our "specialty" car.. so...for all those with any questions. buy the subaru spec 90 wt diff fluid. drain whatever fluid is in there and put it in. it is even easier to do than an oil change. my 2 cents -alex for all who have |
