Default Steering noise

Wondering if you guys knew what I should check on my car. I have an intermittent squeak/shrill sound coming when I turn the steering wheel on the car at a stop or very low speeds (like parking the car). I was wondering if it was anything on the rack itself, or if it could be coilover related? It cuts in and out at certain points, and isn't consistent or constant. My power steering fluid level is fine, the bolts for my rack are tightened down to torque spec and haven't moved since the disastrous bushing install.

Thanks,

If it's a shriek then it's most likely a loose belt. The quick fix for it is bar soap. take a bit and rub it on the inside of the belt. If that fixes it then you need to tighten your belt. Although, I know you've had the car for a while so do inspect that belt, and if it's worn replace it.

If it's a groan/whining noise then you PS pump is on the way out. Once they groan starts there's not fix, but to replace the PS pump. You'll really start to notice it as the steering will feel heavier, and start to fight you a bit when you go around corners.

If that's what it is then let me know and I'll do a quick writeup on replacing the PS pump.

I haven't heard the noise recently, so I'm going to check for it again at lunch.

Well, I just checked and with the ground wet from rain, I heard a groaning from what I think might be the tires.

The noise it makes is almost identical to brake squeal. it cuts in near lock in both directions, but in the past, has cut in at different points.

I'll try the belt first. Steering feels great around town. The pump does groan at the very end of lock.

yeah, i have no updates. my cars steering works fine, so i'm leaning towards the loose belt theory. i'm going to have it in for an alignment in the next month and check again then.

all bolts for the rack are secure.
