Default Budget Lowering...

Hey guys, im on a strict budget, but would definetely like to have my car sit lower. I love the way the STi handles stock, but i was wondering what the most cost effective route to getting my STi to sit just about an ince lower?

Order up a set of JDM pinks or find a set used on here. I believe the drop the car about 25mm.

Will the stock shocks hold up ok with just springs?

your springs are not pinks(very unlikely......unless you bought your care used or something)...people at the dealership don't know anything 95% of the time.

there are USDM Pinks sold at the dealerships.

and there are JDM Pinks imported and sold by lots of websites and vendors on here.

JDM Pinks are better and drop you more

Tanabe GF210's are pretty cheap. Used goes for like 100-150. They drop the car nicely but it gets a little harsh since the spring rates in front is something like 324 lb?

Well, about my question, how will my stock shocks hold up to just springs? I'll definetely look into some of those cheaper spring sets.. are there any companies to absolutely stay away from?

Also a guy said when lowering to get it installed at the dealer b/c of it being awd it would need an alignment right away, and would be too difficult to try alone.. is this BS?

yes, there are plenty of springs you should stay away from, but it would be easier to name the springs you should consider

JDM Pinks
Racecomp engineering springs (either the revised yellow's or the new blacks)
Prodrive (i dont think they become coilbound, but i dont remember)

that's about it. Any other spring more or less will significantly decrease handling performance.

By far the cheapest option that would still be acceptable would be some used swift springs or tanabe GF210's.

^^Agreed, but I don't think he'd want the Prodrives since they really don't drop the car much. JDM pinks are probably the way to go.

As far as how the stock struts will hold up, they'll be fine with JDM pinks. The rates aren't drastically different.

You will need an alignment after a spring installation. Best not to wait more then a week.

^ If you are on a budget and you are patient you can learn to do one yourself at home.
