Default Front/Rear Sway Bar Recc.

I've searched and read numerous threads but still can't decide on what setup to go with. This is my daily driver so I'm looking for something streetable and not too crazy. I don't plan on tracking my car or autoxing it whatsoever.

Right now all I have suspension wise is Tanabe GF210's. I was thinking of going with the Cusco 22mm f/r sway bars, but then I read that 22mm is barely an upgrade since the stock sways are 20mm. If thats the case, then 24mm seems to be the next best bet. I don't want anything bigger because like I said this is my daily driver.

So pretty much, I just want something better then stock that reduces body roll and improves handling, I mainly do alot of highway and spirited driving.

Give me your input, thanks in advance.

Sway bars really don't cause much ride harshness at all, even really big ones. If you want good ride quality, go with big (27mm) sway bars and ditch your lowering springs. If you plan on switching to coilovers later, 22mm or 24mm are probably better long-term.

I went with COBB front and rear sways, much better than stock and a good combination, don't forget to get some strut tower bars too

27-29 FSB and 26 RSB for me...with RCE T2s on order. As Stretch said this may be too much with the new coilovers....we'll see.

No plan for a front strut tower as it does not seem to be a useful item to me.

I have no intentions of ditching my springs or getting a huge FSB because I don't autox or track my car.

Anyway, what do you guys think about the Hotchkis Street Kit? I believe its 25.4mm front and rear.

I'm sorry, but I cannot agree with this completely. 27 front would be fine for a rather agressive street driver who is willing to put up with the dartiness, but I have to flat out disagree with the 27 in the rear. I have found that it's way too big for the average driver on a primarily street driven car.

Additionally, it's been pretty well established that the stock USDM springs are too soft for the stock dampers.

In my opinion you should keep the springs you have, and go 24 front and 24 rear, and I would suggest the adjustable so you can fine tune to your driving style.

While 22mm doesn't seem like much over 20mm, but you have to keep in mind how these bars work. With all things being equal a 2mm increase in diameter represents a 46% increase in stiffness.

The other thing that I would suggest is that you at least upgrade the rear endlinks.

Edit: in regards to the hotchkis bars - while they make good bars they are hollow so you are not getting a 5.4mm increase in effective diameter when compared to the stock bars.

^Thanks for the well-educated response.

I guess the Whiteline 24mm f/r sway bars would be my best bet then?

I know Stretch is going to disagree with me on this so we'll see what he has to say.

My opinion is 24/24 with those springs though.

Stretch - food for thought - your findings may be why the type-25 rear setup runs such a low rate spring in the rear.

Nope, no disagreement. I haven't tried 27mm bars front and rear, so I can't really debate them.

Nonetheless, the bench racer in me would still recommend getting equal sized bars front and rear. That way, you have the flexibility of making that combination 29mm/27mm, 29mm/25mm, 27mm/25mm, etc. A 24mm bar lets you go as low as "22mm", but I really don't think at that point you're getting disproportionate. Why bother?

I think both 27mm/24mm and 27mm/26mm feel good. So, my recommendation is to get 27mm bars and put the rear one on soft- the "25mm" setting. If you want more stiffness, bump up to 29mm and 27mm.

dont mean to highjack this thread but how does this sound?

whitelines
27mm in the front
24mm in the rear
rce yellows w/ groupNs all the way
kartboy front and rear endlinks maybe? or should i go with whiteline?

my car is mostly DD and i drive on the roads in southern california. i plan on attending autoxs soon and then start going to willow springs probably. would this be the ideal setup for DD/autox/minimal track? DD is more important for me than the other two. is there anything that i should change in my setup?

thanks
josh

I'd wait for RCE's "normal guy" springs and run them with Prodrive bump stops. Either that or keep your stock springs and trim your stock bump stops. I do not agree with RCE's decision to lower the car as much as they do with their Yellows, but that has nothing to do with sway bars, so read one of my bump stop threads instead!
