I read somewhere cutting the stock front bumpstops will increase your travel and give a little better ride quality because I guess you are riding around on the bumpstop most of the time (reason for such a bumpy ride) That may not be 100% true, but just what I read.. and also try different tires. If you are daily driving the car mostly you can get a less agressive tire with some softer sidewalls which would certainly give a nicer ride. a big portion of the ride quality is due to the re070s brick like sidewalls

option 3.... reconsider your purchase on the car. STi is not for the timid and is pretty much a streetable racecar, you cant expect a caddy like ride out of it.

Good luck

Unless you have money to spend, get used to it, unfortunately. A significant upgrade to the suspension will help. But even then, a lot of the bobble comes from the highly sprung seats -- with any kind of stiff suspension, they will continue to bounce. So a proper fix requires addressing both, and unless you are very clever that means $$$.

My bobble fix was about $3100. Two thirds of that was for the Recaro Sport seats, the rest for springs, camber plates, and tops. Not the cheapest route for sure, but I can tell you that I have zero bobble. The majority of the improvement came from the seats.

I concur.

However, with the right mods, and maybe some help from Dan (BoostJunkie) or Myles from RCE, it's possible.

Fixing the bobblehead.

Partial fix 1: Cut the stock bumpstops, or install Prodrive bumpstops. That way you get more travel and the ride will improve.

Partial fix 2: New struts/coilovers. Expensive.

TRUE FIX: New aftermarket seat. There are always seats for sale here and on NASIOC. Pick one up. It's cheaper than new suspension bits (mostly).

You could use the 04 kuckles and wheels then use the Koni's The Koni's are the ONLY reason I am keeping my 04 and not going to a 07 limited. Its rides so nice now I just can't believe Subaru couldn't valve thier shocks like the konis.

IMO, the Prodrive springs are signifcantly more comfortable than stock, and I also find their performance better. Note that they come with shortened bump stops for the front.

Someone on this forum rated these springs for comfort on a 1-10 scale, and I agree with their assessment.

stock springs: 1
JDM Pink springs: 3
Prodrive springs: 6

Unfortunately, I do not think there are any cheap solutions to the dampers. (I wish Koni would make an 05+ STI kit.)

Hope this helps,
J

Ive also read that the fix is in new struts and/or new seats. I went with Tanabe GF210 springs last year and It lessoned the bobble head, but it is still there. Ive gotten used to it. The STI bobble head is better than an STI with a blown rear strut.. Now that made me sick on the highway and I learned to appreciate my struts after I replaced them with some stock take offs.

I would love to go with some Ohlins, but they are out of reach for now. There are a couple companies working on aftermarket struts. Have to see when they are available

My biggest problem with the STI's stiff suspension is when turning on rough road, I feel like my car is going to bouce to the next lane. I saved money for few months, and got the Ohlins fixed struts, and cannot be happier. Tires with softer side wall will help.

Unfortunately it's tough to get a comfy ride out of the stock struts. You can make it better but they simply have too much rebound to completely eliminate the bounce. Cutting the bumpstops can be helpful but it is by no means a solution, the biggest problem is the valving. Prodrive springs or the upcoming RCE "regular guy" springs, along with some Group-N top mounts will improve the ride quality a lot, but that still leaves the struts and seats. As of now the only thing available for 05+ is the Ohlins, although we are working on changing that in the not too distant future As far as the seats, they do make a big difference as well. If you want to go the least expensive route possible with seats you can usually find a set of Evo 8/9 takeoffs for pretty cheap. They won't match the interior but they are very comfy and supportive.

Prodrive springs along with Pirelli PZero M+S Tires. Very comfortable. Buying another set of tires justifies a set of aftermarket rims, of course.

SEATS!!! That'll get rid of 99% of the bobblehead, but won't make the ride any softer...just less of a headache.
