IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 Trader Rating: (9) | I've had that annoying squeek roughly after a month after purchasing the car... Now with the group-n's even more squeeky! Oh well, it's doing its thing. I've grown used to it, but it makes my 35K car feel like 10k. ![]() Kind Regards, Ryan |

| Junior STI Driver | i have some sort of noise too coming from the rear left after the group N strut mounts install + coilovers, its more like a "creak" than a "squeak". The noise occurs only when i go over small abrupt bumps where the car weight shift left and right. For example: when entering a driveway. Straight line or even hard cornering, no noise. |

| Junior STI Driver | Same here, got the squeak and it's a PITA. Myles says it's the strap wrench issue on the T2 install (which I'm sure you know about) but I think it's the rear strut mount..... Ifyou got a fix Tom let me know. And be good Daryn |

| Junior STI Driver | I have the RCE T2s also. Yeah and Myles told me that when you installed the coilovers, you need to use the "strap wrench to tighten the shaft". I don't quite exactly understand how you would do this. I can just let my installer figure it out, but i also want to know myself. |

You use it to hold the strut shaft while you use a regular wrench on the nut.

I've no answer yet, but I'm working on it with my mechanic and Myles. Your GroupN squeak on any particular side? Be good, TomK Last edited by ace996; 06-06-2007 at 07:18 PM.

Straight line - bump on right side...noise, bump on left side...no noise, bump on both sides (big expansion joint)...noise. Noise only on right rear...from top-mount location. Be good, TomK

I hope you get this issue solved. The design of the strap wrench by ridgid looks like it might damage the shaft of the coilover. I think the craftsman one is better. What do you think?? Craftsman Ridgid

| Junior STI Driver | The creaking noise is getting louder and louder to a point that i'm worried something's gonna break. I was making a left turn on a slightly bumpy road, and from the rear left you hear this CREAK, CREAK, CREAK, CREAK, CREAK, CREAK, CREAK, CREAK, so loud and obvious!!!! I'm going to bring it to my installer first thing tomorrow morning. Ian |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 Trader Rating: (9) | This is very common...I have it right now with my Group-N's on RCE Springs. I actually had it before the install! Only the rear passenger side and on slight bumps...Anyway, I've grown to live with it...but it does get annoying at times.... Kind Regards, Ryan |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | I know this issue has been covered ad nauseum on all kinds of forums.. as I have just spent over two hours reading every kind of explanation for the right rear squeak problem! .... But......Apart from KW sending new versions of their coilovers to a number of Subie owners, I'm not sure that I have read of an actual, physical "fix." I haven't heard the full explanation for the actual noise making either. Several customers suggested an abrasive reaction between the two metal surfaces of the top hat and the N mount but KW seemed to be saying it was a valving issue. It is apparent to me that it is a combination of both; The restrictive valving creates a minute lifting of the metal surfaces which in turn generates the abrasive squeak. This is born out in my particular situation because I have enjoyed my Tarmac 2's from Racecomp through an entire autocross season with no problems. However .... I live in North Dakota.. and as soon as our temperatures dropped below freezing the dreaded squeak raised its head! Presumably the thicker condition of the fluid within the reservoir exacerbates the slow reaction of the valving and separates those surfaces. My main question is this; Am I doing any harm to the integrity of my suspension system? Is something wearing out that could fail under stress? This ad is not endorsed by this member.
