| Amateur STI Driver | Hey guys, I have a stock '05 STi with 48k miles on it and have finally joined the "rear strut failure" club. I'd rather not replace them with factory struts and am thinking of going aftermarket. I don't really care to modify the car much, so this is mostly to (hopefully) avoid having to repeatedly replace the rear struts. Can you guys offer suggestions on what kinds of shocks, coilovers, etc., to look into? I'm not very knowledgable about suspension stuff... Currently I'm considering either a set of Tokico shocks (around $450 for a set of four) or JIC coilovers (around $1200), but am open to all suggestions. The car is almost entirely street driven, on stock wheels, and I'm not looking to lower it. Thanks. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

If you decide to buy coilovers you will get what you pay for. currently the 2 best cheaper options are the Bilstein PSS9 and the Ground control kit. They will both run you in the $1500-$1700 range. If you want a step up from that, the RCE T2s are nice. BTW, if I seem a little rude its because I have typed and read this same response probably 30-40 times. You can probably find your answers 2 or 3 times on the first page of this section.

I didn't know that aftermarket struts don't necessarily bolt right in, so that's definitely a bit of helpful and crucial information. I'll poke around in this section for other threads asking the same. Thanks again.
