Default Suggested alignment specs, ATTN Racecomp :)

Hi all.

I've got a 2004 STi with those fancy new yellow racecomp springs, 24mm front whiteline sway and 27mm rear whiteline sway and some noisy kartboy endlinks. Everything is installed now and I am running an eyeballed alignment.

An aside:
I bought this all from Racecomp via Mike, and it was a good experience. If Mike reads this thread, I'm the joe from Nova who backed out of a nice deal to install everything because of no time off. Thanks for the nice shipping charges. BTW, the front endlinks came with no nuts A hop to Lowes fixed that.

I can take my car to any old shop for a stock alignment setup, but I'm trying to set things up for a track day I have coming up. (this is at VIR if anyone is wondering). I'm a suspension noob, and would like some suggestions on an alignment that won't eat through my tires too fast, yet perform more admirably than a stock alignment. Basically I'd like to print out a post, hand it to the person doing the alignment, and say "Do eet!". I'd intend on running said alignment 24/7, hence the desire to save some of the tires. (I replace tires every 1 - 2 years btw, take that into account)

Like every noob says, I've done quite a bit of searching, so if I missed a very important thread buried in a sticky somewhere, please let me know.

Thanks!
-Eric-

I will be running the same setup as you on my 06 STi when I get the sway bars installed this week. I also have a track event this July at Summit Point raceway in West Virginia, so I would be very interested in some good alignment advice from anyone here.

I found this link on clubwrx. Some info, but I'd like to hear more.

http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/showthread.php?t=89767

I found a few people in that thread running something like:
-1.0~-1.2 camber in the front
-1.5 camber in the rear
0 toe
0 cross toe
0 cross camber

Wayne Cunningham from Whiteline Tech support sent me these alignment specs--for my 06 STI:

As for alignment spec's, if you would like relatively even tyre wear I would recommend between -1 to -1.25 degree's of camber on the front and -1 degree's of camber on the rear.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

For Toe settings I would recommend 0.0mm on the front and 0.5mm of toe in per side on the rear therefore giving 1mm toe in total on the rear.<o></o>

I recommend the slight toe in on the rear as the MY05 & 06 STi's have greater amounts of torque to the rear wheels, therefore the toe in will help to reduce the tendency towards o/steer on corner exit under acceleration. <o></o>

this alignment setup with the same mods:
-2 Front camber
-1 Rear Camber
0 toe all around.

you can really use the slip angle of the tires with this setup. If you want to go a little more conservative, try -1.5R camber.

Keep the toe 0 if you drive on the road. if you do, toe will kill your tires.

edit: you will need bolts or plates to get that kind of camber F and R

Thanks for the information. I can't wait to get the car handle nicely.

I don't have plates Should I shoot for some ratio between front and rear camber? More in rear? I'm at a high torque stage 2 right now.

Thanks also! You agree toe in other than 0 will eat through tires?

For your set up....I agree with what everyone else has said. JUst get max camber up front, which wil be around -1.5.

And yes there are numerous threads on this.

OP has an 04 STI, oversteer isn't really going to be his biggest complaint. How is it that an 05 has any more torque going to the rear wheels when the torque split for both 04 and 05 is 35:65?

I think because the person your quoting is in Austrailia. Don't they have slightly different setups than we do?

FWIW, the 05 STI I looked at while I was in Melbourne had the Enkei wheels (like the limited wheels) so it may have been set up differently. I'm not sure their STI is as closely related to the Spec-C as ours is, it may be more like the standard JDM/UK STI but I don't think the torque split is different.

I called the Tires plus in Herndon VA to setup a time to get an alignment to the suggested specs.

Phone call was funny.

Me: "Y'all do alignment to something other than stock specs."
Him: "No sir, we do not."
Me: "Thats too bad, my other subaru friends said they got good alignments at your shop. I track my car at times.. blah blah.
Him: pause... *cough* "Umm, you got plates and how much camber do you want."

Are there legal reasons he was hesitant?

Ok here it is......are you ready for it....these are the super mega gangster alignment specs

2.8 Camber Front
1\8th Toe out
Caster should end up around 5.4 degrees

1.8 Camber Rear

1\16th to 1\8th Toe OUT

These settings only work if you have tons of track time and you arent afraid of a car that rotates, the car is really fast this way but you better have fast hands. I'm not just joking around about the last part, know youre limits.

Matt
