| Junior STI Driver | Hey, I've noticed this issue for a while now and am asking for some feedback. After the car had about 2-3k miles, I noticed that when I would drive over an expansion joint or into a driverway(small curb) I would get a shudder through the steering wheel. The shudder feels like the steering column is loose and shakes/shudders slightly over bumps. The reason I'm looking at STI's only is that the STI does not have the rubber isolator in the steering as the WRX and 2.5's do. Although if someone with a wrx or other has experienced this, pls chime in. I checked all the tierods, steering rack, ujoints.....and they are all tight and have no play. I've not really looked under the dash, but I can say the the steering posistion adjuster is tight. when this shudder started I was completly stock. I then removed all swaybars for winter, then added cobb(front) and Perrin(rear) sways. Noise is still there, so bars are not the issue. I've not taken it to the dealer, just looking for info. | Junior STI Driver | Never aligned the car yet. after 7k miles, tires are wearing perfectly, so I doubt I have a serious alignment issue.I wonder how the alignment would cause the shudder in the steering column?worth a shot and I will be doing an alighnment soonthanksE |

The first time they replaced one of the control arms becuase they thought that the bushing might have been worn. (12,000 miles), noise still present. On their second attempt to fix it, the mechanic said that the noise could be coming from the solid power steering lines hitting the steering rack. He adjusted it, but noise still present. Also noted, the noise was there from day one before and after installing WL steering rack bushing. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
