| Professional STI Racer | I have noticed that when I go around a corner that has uneven pavement and carry some speed through it that I will get a nasty knock through the steering wheel. I can hear the knocking and it sounds like it is coming from the steering colum. I was wondering if anyone else has this happen. Thanks TMS This ad is not endorsed by this member. | Professional STI Racer | I can reproduce it if there are enough bumps in the road. It is not the DCCD that I know of. The DCCD only makes wierd noises when in manual mode and moving slowly. This only happens when I carry some speed through an extened turn like an off ramp. The DCCD setting does not change the sound at all. I can feel it in the steering wheel and hear it in the car. It is almost the same sound as when the joint in the steering colum of my pinto whent bad. TMS |

I'm not overly worried, as my clunk (I'm "STiDayDreamin") is VERY sporadic. Here's the 2nd link.....(probably the more helpful) http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=526125 HTH everyone. IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2004 Trader Rating: (1) | sounds similar to mine...i can't say i notice a sound so much as the feel. there's this one road i take, where for example a level straight turns to a right-hand incline. if i'm driving at a good pace, turn the wheel about a quarter turn for the curve, it's like the steering follows the suspension compressing in the front end (from the abrupt incline). i'm sure that the steering wheel doesn't move, but i can feel a small... impact, i guess, through the wheel. it doesn't happen if i hit an incline while still going straight, only on a decently sharp curve. speeds are 30-50mph i suppose. it makes me nervous, but hopefully nothing's ready to fall apart anytime soon ;x |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2004 Trader Rating: (1) | My STi did this right after I drove it off the lot 2 weeks ago. I'm at 2,000 miles now and I can't say that I've heard it this week. The noise is just as was described. On sharp left handers while on the gas, the steering column would transmit a clunking vibration. My WRX never did this, as was suggested in some of the nasioc threads, despite being tracked many times. I don't know if it has gone away on the STi or I just haven't pushed it hard enough lately. |

| Junior STI Driver | Yup, mine too. I'm watching the forum to see if there is a cure. It kind of feels like maybe the spring/damper combo is mismatched. Does anyone have this problem with different springs or shocks? Jim |

| Junior STI Driver | Yes, washboard is the worst. Right turns for me seem to do it. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
