IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2005 Trader Rating: (3) | I know everyone is also reading the Dennis Grant thread on shock theory... I did a quick search and it seems like there are only two authorized Koni rebuilders in the US (according to a PDF I found on the Koni website). Reviews seemed mixed as to the customer service of the rebuilders and the turn around time can be quite long. Koni also does rebuilds and has good reviews but does not post any prices on the web. Considering all of this, is anyone now planning on having their GC Koni's sent out to be dynoed and matched? This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2006 Trader Rating: (2) | ProParts and TriPoint Engineering? I've actually talked with TriPoint on the subject in the past, and I'd very much trust them. But personally, no, I would have no interest in getting my new struts rebuilt. I understand the benefits but I'm too frugal. Yeah, I'm a cheapskate. Besides, I just don't think I'm at a level where it'd matter to me. TriPoint has shown two off-the-shelf Koni's were within 10% of one another. They've said this is typical. Here's a great thread on the subject: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showt...hp?t=123666252 |

Thanks for your input, Stretch. I know I wouldn't get Koni's revalved, but I was curious to see what other people were thinking.

I opted for the SA's, for 400/450 rates. He didn't seem to be very keen on the street ride of the 8611's. If I feel like the SA's are lacking I may upgrade later, but for now I think it should be okay.

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | I've been running my setup for almost a year now, and I love them! The ride is actually pretty good(much better than my old zeals, and i'm running stiffer springs) with the 8611's, and if I so choose I can drop in the 8610's into the GC housings. The only negative so far is that the brakeline brackets are welded a bit off, but I just used some washers to take up the gap and everything has been great. Oh and like teh clap said the mounting ears are a bit weird. I tried to fit 17x9.5 et 44 wheels in the front and they hit the mounting ear. I now run 17x9.5 et 38 wheels without issues in the front. I chose the GC setup over the ZZYZX's because it's pretty much the same setup, just cheaper, and I can easily change springs(have changed springrates probably 6 times now) as well as change to the 8610's if I so choose. If anyone has any specific questions just shoot me a pm |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2006 Trader Rating: (2) | Ha, it must have been you! Mark said a user reported the brake bracket being off, so they went back and collected the stock struts off of several model year STI's. Their brake mount is, according to Mark, an exact match of every OE strut they sampled. He mentioned it several times, as if there was a heated internet debate over it sometime in the past. It's funny to finally hear someone else bring it up. |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | Hahah yea Mark told me originally that the brake line brackets were fixed, but when I received my coilovers the brackets were still off, so I told him and sent him pics and he said he'd look into it. BTW SA are single adjustable(rebound only) usually referring to the koni yellows, while DA refers to double adjustable as in you can adjust compression and rebound separately(rebound on top, compression on the bottom of the shock. They are also yellow though lol |
