Default BILSTEIN PSS9 Review

First note, these are some very nice coilovers.

Installation was a breeze. They work with stock top hats. The only thing to note is the bottom of the assembly comes very very close to the axle boot.. (less than 1/8 inch) which makes me a little nervous, but they did fit.

I first set them on the softest setting. You can tell that on soft, the ride is still stiffer than stock but very comfortable for daily driving. After a day of driving I set it to as stiff as it would go. At a very stiff level, the car seems to bounce a little, but still very comfortable. Im going to back it down to a setting of 4 and be done with it.

Overall, I am very pleased, and the cars handling is simply amazing now with a comfortable ride to boot. I would highly recommend these if you have the money to buy them.

Thanks for the review! When you say "at a very stiff level" are you on the stiffest setting?

So you're saying the bottom spring perch comes close to the axle boot?

It comes pretty close even on a stock strut. No big deal, it's just tight in there.

the absolute bottom of the assembly (where the adjustment knob is) is about 1/8th of an inch away from the axle boot. it will never touch the axle boot because of the configuration of the suspension as a whole, but still..

gotcha, i was having trouble imagining what was coming so close, I forgot about the adjuster. I've seen people with JICs move the body of the strut low enough to push the adjuster into the axle boot.

Did you install these with camber plates, and if so which ones? Do you still have the Cobb swaybars (hollow bars at 25MM same as the Hotchkis?) listed in your signature with these?

How would you describe the handling and do you auto-X or track the car or run other than street tires?

I didn't camber plates.

I have the Cobb hollow bars.

The handling is remarkably tight. My car doesn't move when you shove it.. only the tires lean a little. I'm going autocrossing this weekend if I can figure out my WOT misfire problem.

BTW.. I had Eibach Sportlines with stock struts before as a comparison.
So far around town the suspension feels great through corners and curvy roads.

when you had them on full soft. were they as bouncy as stock? or were they smoother than stock? im seriously considering this coilover but just want to know if it can serve as a better daily driver on softer settings.

I've got some PSS9s in my garage waiting for RCE camber plates, mounts and some other goodies. Any pics during or after the install? I haven't performed a suspension swap-out in years and any pictures are helpful.
