I don't like things that don't make sense! (So why'd I get married...?)

LOL...I wont comment on Dan's status. I would say ( let me choose these words carefully)...........that Dan is a nice guy and his girlfriend is a nice person also.

(those lines are SUPER close together) for a reason.

Hey Dan, I will miss ya on this "BMW experience"tour man. I was hoping we could work together. I found out its is NOT the M3 launch, but I might have some info on "that" and yes we need to be on that tour no matter what. Flogging those will be nice( for about a week).

On the issue of inverted or not and angle etc............I wont even get started. You guys crack me up. I bet if I threw you all in a 20x20 ft room with a table and on that table was a round steel ball that weighed 5000 lbs...you would DIE from trying to figure it out beyond it being a BALL that you cant lift or move.

With that said...I will answer the thread starter.

THe Motons are good and yes it should be for a dedicated track car, since even with the quick dis connects you need to drill a very nice size HOLE in your car in 4 places. THis bothers most people and so we HAVE to disclose that, since ALOT of people call us wanting Motons. They offer alot of performance and durability. Super wide range and rebuilds required abut every 24 months based on a 10 race weekend schedule based on my experience with BMW and Porsche and other "strut cars". If there is something you dont like, you can send them to Moton USA and have them revalved and changed to your liking. We started our work with them dating back to Sept 2004. I had them for a while and loved them. Ran them on a 350/300 and then a 700/650 and couldnt believe the "range".

But yes, for A LOT less there are others that come close enough to work fine. Good damper, good company, good track record.

Actually, things are great with me and my girl. But the honeymoon is about over so I can almost relate to Stretch and TIC. But when opportunity knocks, sometimes you've got to pound back!

Ya, maybe someone will get sick at the last minute and I'll hear from Dawn. But it could be worse. HA! I talked to Arie Jr. today and not only hasn't he had any work, he doesn't have a ride for the Indy 500. He's in Indy hoping someone there gets sick so he can get a ride.

You said it. I'm confused by my recent observations as well...

At least the setup seems to be seriously (SERIOUSLY) kicking ass for me on the AutoX course. Like... my driving is now 98% of the issues. So now its all about camera mounts and Evolution school etc etc. I don't have to think about the suspension any more (for now). I can guarentee there hasnt been a crappier driver than me doing as well in the region as I have been...

Dang, and I just got engaged.

Anyhow, I don't think the static friction of the monotubes is as big a deal as the bending load due to the springs. those never have a uniform force distribution on the seats and it always bends the shafts a bit. Under loading this is just worst because the coil spring is not very linear either (I saw high speed footage once and it was very alarming).

Also, the rear clunk is probably due to the multilinks because those are used a lot on the back of cars with rear struts as well. There is a lot more compliance (more links etc) and there is a lot of funky moments going on back there on the upright and the links. I am sure it helps create more bending and flex in the struts. Don't quote me on this, I just think it might have something to do with it.

the STi uses a MacPherson rear, not multilink. I haven't heard about clunking issues in the rear with cars that use multilink out back, like the Evo for example, which is why I assume it's a function of the MacPherson geometry. BUT I'll stop now to spare Myles the trouble of mocking my nerdy side

Funny how in two years I thought it was a multilink. Now I am clueless and have no explanation and I will not be able to go to bed

I thought the same as well. So i decided to look in the Bible of Suspension aka Milliken. It appears as though our rear suspension would be most accurately classed as a Tri-link Strut rear suspension. If any of you have the book, Figure 17.29b looks exactly like our rear suspension to me. So does tri-link = multilink? Anyone? Bueller?
