Default wheel bearings?

thinking about picking up an 04 wrb sti, ive read a thing or 2 about crappy wheel bearings on the 04; does anyone know more about this? should i try and get them swapped before the bumper-to-bumper expires or would this be covered by the powertrain (i doubt it but worth a shot)

thanks everyone!

will you be tracking or autocrossing the car? If so then wheel bearings are going to become a concern. If you're just going to be driving on the street they'll last a good long while (although eventually they will wear out).

My 04 is a daily driver, so it doesn't see the track(that we don't have) and I've had no problems with the wheel bearings, currently 125,000kms and going strong.

By contrast mine sees a ton of autoX time on top of daily driving. I'm also running -3* camber in the front, and 5mm wheel spacers. I'm on my 4th front left bearing and I'm at 77K miles.

i say wait until they start squeeking.. then worry about it.

60K miles with 10 drag sessions a year and 5 autocrosses and i have no problems.

Where did you get your 5mm wheel spacers? Do you replace your own bearings?

I am in the middle of a hub swap.
Draggin wont matter, only high temp track/autox abuse will do them in.

I did 3 years of autox and 15+ track sessions on my first set of bearings till they were rediculously killed.

Light occasional track use it wont matter.

What do they sound like when they're shot? Here's a weird sound I get on left handers some times: listen carefully at the 49 sec mark....What is that?

Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket "perfomance" bearing for the 04's?? It sounds like a lot of people are buying the OE bearings and changing the grease.

I really don't want to do the hub swap (It puts you in SM for SCCA Auto-X right?), But I would like the bearings to last longer on the track and autocrossing.

Thanks
